Please Login to Remove!

I decided to try it and see what happens, I'll update afterwards

UPDATE:

Took about 52 minutes beginning to end.

First thing I notice was that I had about 35mb avail before I installed this OS, immediately after I had about 17mb.

All my apps worked, including my maps and my Bolt browser, except I could not open any of my messages, including text, lost the menu as well.

Have not noticed any lag as of yet, will see about the memory leak over the next few days!

If I can't get my messages working, will certainly go back to my old OS

Default Update:

Switched back to 4.5.0.

This 5.0 update was faster, certainly made my Bolt Browser faster, but after uninstalling all my apps and running nothing else, the memory leak was too huge to deal with. I was only receiving emails and replying and somehow I lost about 4mb of memory.

Hi, new to Blackberry world. My wife has a Verizon Wireless Pink Curve 8330 currently running OS V 4.5.0.175/Platform 3.4.0.55. Trying to figure out if that phone is eligible for an OS 5 upgrade. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You can install this on your wife's phone as long as it is an 8330 and not an 8330m.

Thank you conyers. So I looked up the process to determine 8330 vs. 8330m. I'm pretty confident that it's not an 8330m. Do I just download the setup from here and run it? The wife currently does not use the desktop software at all, she does everything OTA. So it sounds like when I run this executable and follow directions and connect the device all should just happen.

Will my settings be preserved? Data?

Finally, do I need to check with Verizon if I can do this? I mean worst case scenario, the device becomes absolutely unusable, will they pull the "I told you so" card.

Thanks again for any/all help.

Follow the steps in the first post. Worst case scenario is you will have to downgrade back to your current OS. No need to call Verizon.

I would recommend backing up your data first, just to be safe.

Finally took the plunge and loaded 5.0. Having same memory loss issues as reported here. Followed John Clark's memory optimization and got no real improvement.

Question is does anyone have any experience with running Jl_Cmdr and then reload/re-optimize and getting any memory improvement?

I always wonders how these are "fixed" by people other than RIM. Why can RIM not fix issue as quickly?

BBTweaks.com has released V.I.P. v438.12 it is very stable. Follow the tutorial & use Shrink-A-OS. General public release of v438.11 is also available.

i'm trying to do this for my sisters phone, she has 4.5 and want's 5.0
but i saw people saying they didn't have enough room
i checked her phone and she has 34881662 bytes free..
i converted the 90mb to bytes and its 94,371,840 bytes
but when the old os gets taken out would there be enough space?

If you use Shrink-A-OS to get rid of things you don't need following the BBTweaks recommendations in 'Maximizing Your Memory', you'll have more memory than with 4.5. Follow the tutorial @ BBTweaks.com.

Default New Release from BBTweaks.com

I have heard a rumor from a reliable source that BB Tweaks will be releasing v12 to the public soon. I've had it loaded on my BB for a few weeks and it is the best by far. I've also heard that there may be a new VIP hybrid soon also.

Post your problem in BBTweaks.com. Nik is the hybrid developer that can help you troubleshoot your issue. Have you tried using BBSAK to wipe?

BBSAK will connect without an OS on the phone. If you didn't use BBSAK to begin with, then you used some other tutorial that I'm not familiar with.
