Default Battery Problem

Please Login to Remove!

Bought my Blackberry Curve just over a month ago and everything was working completley fine till about a week ago when the battery started to run down really quickly. Before I would make calls, text messages, bbm, internet and play a few games and the battery would still be pretty high come the end of the day. Now without even doing anything and the screen on lock it goes down really quickly and has only around 5 hours battery life. Have tried a few things such as downloading a battery savers app, adjusting the backlight power to 0 and deleting a few unused apps although i have a lot of space on the phone anyway. However none of these things have really made much of a diference and I still get the same problem. Have read on a few forums that the only way to stop this is by redownloading 5 OS back to the blackberry but am struggling to find how to do this. Almost certain my Blackberry had 6 OS when I got it so would I still be able to go and get 5 OS? Any help with getting 5 OS on my Blackberry or any other solutions would be brilliant. Thanks!

Default Re: Battery Problem

If the battery has run down past 20% on a consistent basis, it could be damaged. Lithium batteries seem to like to be topped up, not run down. True of any device with a lithium battery, BTW.

Check the FAQ for an article on maximizing battery life. Also read trough the Help and 9300 sections as there have been several recent threads about battery life, not just on the 9300. Maybe those will help also.

The battery problem you mention here is familiar as I have come across it for the curve 9300 and 9360 devices I manage at work.

Some solutions that have worked for me:
- leave wifi off unless when you need it
- set the screen to lowest brightness and to go dark after 10 seconds of being idle.
- charge the device at the end of each day even if there is still some battery charger remaining.

If the above techniques do not result in better battery life, then it is likely that the battery is defective. As I have done in the past, talk to your cellular provider about exchanging the device AND battery for a new one under warranty.

Good luck and I hope to have been of some help.
