Default Bold 9000 w/ BROKEN MUTE BUTTON: How to EXIT from OS 5.0 key-lock??

Please Login to Remove!

Ok...so how can I exit now from the key-lock if I DON'T have any mute button anymore?!?!?
Before the os 5.0 upgrade my key-lock feature was enabled by pressing the "A" button for 2secs, then could exit by pressing the "A+phone" sequence.....BUT NOW?!?!?

NO MUTE BUTTON = NO USE OF KEY-LOCK ON OS 5.0??????

Why do you not have a mute button?
Why will it not allow you to lock the keypad with A?
And why not unlock with A+call key?

The mute button is broken, and this is an issue that can't be repaired.

I am able to lock the keypad with A, but it seams like it only unlocks with the mute button, like exiting from standby as done with os 4.6

NO unlock with A+call key.

Any clue?!?

I had to go back to 4.6 because I run some apps that won't work with 5 so this is just a suggestion as I can't check on my phone.

Is it possible to assign either the left or right convienience keys to work as the mute button and therefore lock and unlock the keypad?

If you go to options/screen/keyboard and scroll down you will see options for the left and right convienience keys and you can select from a list of functions for them to operate. As the mute key is now so important as it's the only way to unlock the keypad in OS 5 it would make sense that there would be the option to use another key.

Maybe it's time to replace the handset.

Can't you use "K"?

Turn off dial from the home menu.

I just noticed a couple of days ago that my mute button no longer works. I upgraded to 509 a few weeks ago. I can't remember the last time I used the mute button. Now, I don't know if it stopped working because of the upgrade.

No way! Its just a button that "clicks"!

If you open you BB you'll see that is an electronic button soldered on your BB motherboard.
The button is made of a plastic button that moves inside a plastic cage in the classic in<->out way, and at the end of its run it bends two tiny slices of metal that "pops" together making the classic "click" you hear, just touching together and closing the circuit.

In other words, its like any simple button on the earth!
You can just simply see and activate the mute/standby option just by bypassing the circuit and close the circuit with a wire touching the button contacts soldered on the motherboard (tried with my opened BB turned on)

The fact is that I already repaired my button soldering it back on, and after a while I had to open the button it self because of the oxidation of the two tiny slice of metal that where blocking the power contacts.

After some months I am facing the oxidation again, and I am afraid that I could not open the button again because I super-glued it

The only solution is the KEY LOCK to prevent any strange BB use while in my pocket.

DOES OS 5 HAVE A KEY LOCK FEATURE JUST AS WITH OS 4.6 WITHOUT ANY USE OF THE TOP MUTE BUTTON???!?

All other 3 mounting contacts are useful?

If I remove completly the button, should I solder together those 3 contacts with a wire?

no no no, bro. Center contactor is useless, it's only for holding. Only left and right contacts used.
And do-not connect them with a wire, U must have a button or swich beetwen them. When 2 points connected, the lock button "pushed", and the button released when connector lost.
Sorry about my bad English. I wish U understand extractly what I've said

Nono,I had understood perfectly!
I had already found them last time I opened my Bold, but I was guessing about what should happen if I completly remove the button, and so I was guessing about the 3 BIG doubble solder points that are placed beside the two sides of the button and in the middle of the two lillte button contacts you signed.
The fact is that I see that the two external big soldering points beside the buttons are connected to the circuits, so I was guessing if the button cage is some sort of closed contact for something important (soldering lines goes inside the motherboard).

What do you think?
