Default Yahoo email on older Blackberry's

Please Login to Remove!

Yahoo has changed the requirements for email on OS10 and down blackberry phones. ATT, Rogers and others sent email warning of the changes. Spending 6 hours with 4 of them on the phone with ATT proved so far useless.
Has anyone found a solution to keeping email on the older phones?

old settings were

rim.imap.mail.yahoo.com port 993
rim.smtp.mail.yahoo.com port 495 or 587

Supposedly the new setting just eliminate rim from the addresses.

So far nothing works and the suggestion I received from the carriers I called is to buy a iPhone or other phone.

Anyone have any success with the changes and have working email?

I had issues with gmail, aol and Verizon email.

I used outlook.com to pull my emails from them and use active sync on all of my devices since most flavors are not against outlook.com email.

Nice thing is you get a new email address and never miss an email from the old addresses. Most people don't even notice the change.

Thanks Knotty, I was hoping the various services would work a bit better with the changes the carriers made in December but apparently not. I will try adding as you suggest. I think the marketing departments are all trying to sell new devices. It's just frustrating that they detect blackberry and regardless of the settings wont connect. I have an old Motorola candy bar phone and it works with the "new" changes they made. I just have problems seeing a 1.5 inch square screen. Need new eyes

I'm troubleshooting Yahoo email as well. I had to re-validate a few days ago and had no trouble at that time. I deleted the accounts and added them back. But today I had to re-validate again, and cant get it. I deleted the accounts, and still can't add them back. I get the "not at this time" error or the password has changed error depending on what I try.

Just now I turned the device off and left it for 20 minutes instead of rebooting. In process now trying again to add the accounts.

I have three accounts. The Yahoo account, and also AT&T and Bellsouth accounts on Bellsouth ISP hosted by Yahoo. Same issue with all three.

Will post back if I get it working.

EDIT: Ok, added the first one (AT&T) successfully. Either (a) the trick of deleting the accounts and turning the device off for 15 minutes worked, or (b) whatever was going on at Yahoo quit going on, or quit going on for the moment long enough to successfully validate the account.

By the way, I'm using advanced setup for IMAP and entering all setting manually. I'm using the Yahoo server addresses (without rim).

EDIT: Added second (Bellsouth) ok. In earlier edit I wrote that server wasn't responding, but turns out that was my error with the server address.

On to add the Yahoo address.

EDIT: And Yahoo address successively added.

after working on the mess all day and talking to ATT ( totally useless ) and reading many many sites I think I have found a method to reload the email on older BB's ( OS 10 etc )

I click on add email and add the email address someone @att.net
then it askes for the password and states it needs more in red

The key change is going into advanced and selecting POP and NOT IMAP

Using the standard pop email settings it works

server = inbound.att.net port 995 SSL

server = outbound.att.net port 465 SSL

add passwords etc.

This is the ATT server info via yahoo.

If other providers have POP server info it should work the same.

The refresh rate is about 30 minutes but testing does show test emails come thru.

Hope it works for others.

Hope you see my post above. POP stinks. I'd like to know if you get IMAP working as I did.

Agree that POP is not as good but I was not able to get any IMAP working all day. At this point I'm happy with any thing that works. I will keep trying your method.

What are the server addresses your using for Yahoo

I too had been working on it for a few hours on and off until I tried turning the device off. That was the difference for me.

I left the device off for 15 or 20 minutes (after the accounts were deleted on the device).

I used imap.mail.yahoo.com and smtp.mail.yahoo.com

One of my email accounts hosted by Yahoo quit again. This time I didn't delete the account, just turned the device off for a little while. When I turned the device on I entered the password for IMAP server and SMTP server and saved. It worked.

But as I'm typing this, two accounts quit again. Maybe the same account or maybe the Yahoo account and the other hosted account.

What a PIA.

I think Yahoo and ATT are playing with the email systems still. Today the email over 2 meg did not flow to the phone. Did some further testing and will see if it continues.

Apparently ATT has limited the email and message size to 1 meg. they do list something called "Advanced Messaging: and that allows larger size email and messages with photos and other graphics. attached. They also indicate not all cell phone allow advanced messaging. One type allowed was the Samsung but some users indicated it did not work all the time. The limits on normal non cell phone email is 25 meg. It might answer the emails received by some in January 2019 concerning additional changes planned. I suppose with the increased use of cell service they are forced to limit the amount of data being sent and received to avoid network issues. wonder if Verizon will follow the same path now that they own Yahoo
