Default TCP on storm

Please Login to Remove!

My wife got a new 8900 and now she wants to use the storm with another provider that has 3G but no blackberry service. I installed opera, viigo and jive talk on it, but it doesnt seem to work using the TCP settings. Has anyone managed to get third party apps to connect via TCP without blackberry service?
thanks

if you have no data plan you will not be able to connect via tcp. TCP is a data protocol and you need data to use it.

good luck

I have generic data plan on that sim card.. but still TCP seems sporadic. For example. Viigo will pull RSS feeds and than suddenly nothing will happen for 3 hours or so. I cant even log into Jivetalk etc.
Than, suddenly, data will come again for a few minutes.

I found this out kind of when trying to get Vlingo to work. I have TMobile and was told that depending on how your device was unlocked (I have a 9530 setup for T-Mobile), that that could have some bearing on why you have sporadic data. Also maybe not having the network mode be automatic, but choosing CDMA or GSM/UMTS would help as well. If you are GSM and want stability, get a 9500.

The network is manually set up to GSM. What is the difference in the unlocking? I purchased the unlock code from the net.
The strange thing is that when i put the BB enabled SIM, the phone seems to work.
The reason i want to get it to work on TCP is because the provider that offers BB service does not have 3G..

This adresses slight different problem to mine. Once I insert BB enabled SIM i have no problem using data. However, if I use regular sim with 3G data enabled i get sporadic data when using TCP.
