I'm new here and I need some help
Please Login to Remove!
Hello,
My name is Leroy and I'm from the Netherlands.
I've got some questions:
1. I've completed the installation wizard and my e-mail settings are ok, but I just don't get my new e-mails on my bb... I can send e-mails to other persons, that works fine. Can anyone help me with that?
2. Is it possible to see at what time a text message is sent when your bb was turned off while the other person sent it to you? When I turn my bb on and I recieve a message I get to see that it was sent 1 min ago, but this person texted me a few hours before, but my bb was turned off.
3. I'm totally new in the bb world.. so if anyone knows some nice apps, tips, tricks.. please reply^^
greetzz,
Leroy

Re: I'm new here and I need some help
Welcome.
1.) Have you tried a battery pull? If you've done that already, contact your carrier and make sure your Blackberry Data Plan is provisioned correctly.
2.) Not sure what a "sext" message is. But assuming you mean text message, the answer is no. The time stamp is when it is received on your device.
3.) Read and search the different forum sections. One person perception of "nice" may not be anothers.

Re: I'm new here and I need some help
If you have an email client running and deleted downloaded email from the server, BIS cannot grab those messages that are removed before BIS polls the server again. That could be your problem. If not, and if the battery pull didn't fix the issue, then resend service books. How do I resend my service books? - BlackBerryFAQ
SMS show when received. That's the way it is. But there's no reason to turn your device off. Leave it on and received time should closely match sent.
By the way, if you don't know, do a battery pull with the power on, and wait at least 30 seconds. Sometimes, rarely, and second or longer battery pull is needed. So if the first pull doesn't work, try again and wait a good minute.
Re apps, the best depends on what you need, and it goes without saying that opinions vary. My advice is browse the forum and look through app world.

Re: I'm new here and I need some help
Everywhere I go on this forum battery pull is always a part of the answer, has anyone tried soft reset, restart me or quickpull apps. These apps seem to be a must have than risking damaging the battery terminals on bb.

A hard reset -- aka battery pull -- is THE first troubleshooting step and fixes almost all odd BlackBerry behavior.
With experience one finds that a soft reset fixes many things and a hard reset isn't necessary. But there are some things the soft reset doesn't correct while a hard reset will. So when giving advice on a forum like this it is more efficient to go straight to the almost sure thing than mess around.
I've never thought much of the quick pull type apps in the case of qwerty style BlackBerrys because you can always do the single or double soft reset. But not on the Pearl style models, for which quick pull makes sense.

Re: I'm new here and I need some help
Is email arriving on your PC email client? If so, then do you have "Leave Messages on Server" selected in the PC client set up?
Keep in mind that using BIS email is pushed to the BB about every 15 minutes or so, it isn't real time with most ISPs.
Do you have the correct "Incoming email server set up in your BIS account, along with the correct ports and security settings. Did you get an email activation on the BB?

Re: I'm new here and I need some help
By efficient I was talking about the process of helping someone. When a hard reset is very likely the solution to a problem, it saves time to suggest what is almost certain to fix the problem than what might fix the problem. But as I say, a soft reset will often fix things, while some things require a hard reset, and a person can experiment later if whatever problem happens again.

Re: I'm new here and I need some help
Hotmail might be the problem. Please use the SEARCH feature as I know similar issues have come up in the past.
Try deleting the account in BIS. Wait an hour or so and then set it up again. I recommend using your carrier's BIS website to do this rather than the device itself. Make sure that you get an account activation message before trying to send email.

Re: I'm new here and I need some help
Things to do to try and correct weird BIS email issues:
1 - hard reset
2 - resend Service Books
3 - Delete the address from BIS. Delete Service Books for that address. Do a hard reset. Wait a few hours, then add the address back to BIS.
If you've tried all the above and still have problems, and you know the email messages are indeed there in the inbox for BIS to grab and push to the handset, then I don't know what else you can do. Blame BIS, blame hotmail, and wait and see if it corrects on its own, or try #3 again after a day or two.

Re: I'm new here and I need some help
i believe hotmail is the culprit, sometimes my yahoo email wouldnt work because you had to have some type of premium email with them, in order for the push to work

Re: I'm new here and I need some help
Where does this come from? Every once in a while someone says you need premium yahoo for push to work. This is not true.

Re: I'm new here and I need some help
Joe, first, you hijaked a thread. You should have started your own thread.
Second, are you talking about simple files, or apps?
Sounds like you are putting the mobipocket installer file on the device and trying to open there. Don't do that.
Install apps either OTA by pointing the blackberry browser to the download link, or by downloading the desktop installer to a computer and installing to the device using desktop manager. Search and find directions on doing desktop installs if you have to, it's easy to find.
