A new message to say I am

DOWNGRADING back to 4.2...... in progress.

Each time I rebooted, the phone would lock up after it either timed out or I used one or two apps.

I am pretty sure that it must be something, either theme-related or 3rd party app but I have removed a number of them last night and this morning and it still locks up.

... 4.2 is now reloading apps....

Default In real world use.

Today I have used my 8830 extensively at work and I have not had one single lock-up. My device operation is snappy and I am still impressed with how fluid the cursor movement is when I am browsing. I downloaded Viigo for Blackberry today expecting some lag when the app started to download articles. Not so. I am also running Tiny Twitter and Facebook. I wish I had an answer for those with lagging issues.

About all I've noticed over the .101 beta I ran for months is Youtube now works in full screen mode. Outside of that, My "Documents to Go" basic edition no longer has the "Sheets to Go" thing anymore, even when "upgrading" with Dataviz. No biggie because I rarely use the software anyhow.

Since most folks are not reporting such problems, I suspect it is one of the many applications I have installed that is causing it. I don't know if it is the Theme or something else. I should compile a list of apps and post them and let people suggest which might be causing the issues.

YUP, locked again after automatically turning on, allowing me to see STATUS and then going to standby. It would not wake up without using the ON/OFF switch and still that only lights it up - otherwise -frozen!

I was using the Today Theme. I just went to the L-theme and see how that works. NO! And the 3-finger reboot does not work. And with an Otterbox, battery pulls are NO fun!

Why would it WANT the sim card? It should not be mandatory in an 8830 - or is it required for BELL? How does one tweak how the 8830 looks for networks?
I get intermittent freeze-ups, primarily after my phone has been its holster for an extendend period of time. However, a soft reset or battery pull usually fixes it. I also have only 2MB of free space, so I'm not sure if this is causing any problems or not. Otherwise, I like the 4.5 OS. Now if Verizon would get off of its rear and release its own 4.5 OS....

Default Absolutely thrilled!

I enjoyed Documents to Go so much I purchased the Premium Edition last night. Now I am creating and editing documents from my 8830! Who would have thought? In my occupation I have many lesson plans I deal with on a regular basis and having them all on my Berry is about as convenient as it gets. I am very pleased. I especially love the PDF reader. You can change from a normal PDF view to a "wrap text" view which makes reading a PDF very easy. I didn't think an OS upgrade would be this big a deal to me but in my case the added functionality has extended the life of my device at least another year. Maybe longer.

Default Voice Dialing Freeze-Up

I have encountered another problem. My voice dialing feature seems to intermittently freeze up. When it does this, the phone automatically resets if I leave it alone for a few minutes. Has anyone else with a Verizon 8830 experienced this problem?

I upgraded from .77 to this and the BB Alerts seems to not work anymore. Does anyone else have this issue?

I believe I found my LOCKUP problems. Associated with some "thumbnail.DAT" files in the various music folders on my 8gig Media card. They must contain some 4.2 OS indexing which gave the 4.5OS fits. I finally erased all of them (77 in my case) from the various folders. Allowed the card to be rescanned by the Media app and it has been functioning. Of course, along the way, attempting to rule things in and out, I removed almost all 3rd party apps and so I now have to reinstall a number of things and reactivate paid-for software or reset a variety of settings. But it appears to be working - finally.........

I used just about every beta version available and now upgraded to 127. This is the first release I have seen that regularly crashes my phone.

Youtube seems to be fixed, and I haven't had any cursor problems in the browser like with past releases.

The crash happens when I use media player. Sometimes when it start to play a new song it crashes. I'll trying removing the thumbnail data and see if that fixes things.

So I noticed, a couple things after I loaded 4.5.0.127 (Upgraded from 4.5.0.101)

1. Before I applied a 3rd party theme (Curve 8900) I had over 26mb of free space and that is with 13 3rd partys apps loaded and Documents To Go Premium Edition.
2. Once I applied a 3rd party theme (Curve 8900) I had 12mb of free space and then with in 4 hours it dropped to 5mb.

So I changed themes (BB Dimension L)and deleted the 3rd party theme off my 8830 and after 1 battery pull and 20 hours "up time" I've held at 26mb of free space!

Several post stated the ringer should be louder. I've not "hard" any difference yet.

Loving this OS!!

As far as the ringer, I have mine set on classic ringer (or something like that). It rang in my car the other day and scared my wife! It is definitely louder, at least on my bb.

I have no idea how you have so much memory. With Docs 2 Go, I'm running between 15 and 17.
