Default *FREE* IRC client for Blackberries!

Another cool piece of free software, JMIRC! An IRC client for your Blackberry!

http://jmirc.sourceforge.net/

This program works excellent and is under active development by the line developer, juhovh!

Features:

* Made to be similar to MIRC, but of course is not quite the same..
* Supports multiple windows/channels
* Supports alternate nicknames
* Supports color!
* Supports HTTP proxy (when following directions)

Of course, you require MDS, or public MDS (using OS 3.8 or higher on a provider that supports 0t) in order to use this application.

More cool things coming:

* A 'quickinput' mode is in development

Give it a shot.. this application is a java midlet and works on any MDIP enabled phone/device..

I use this application daily, sometimes for a couple days straight and it is very stable! A must have for anyone who uses iRC..

How does one switch to another application from within this app? I'm impressed with what is there, but I have yet to find out how to switch out of it without closing it.

Looking forward to the quickinput, especially if it is anything like the VeriChat input mechanism.

You can switch out of any application using the taskbar.

Press alt-escape, and it will bring you a tasklist where you can switch applications without using the menu..

This may differ depending on the Blackberry you use.. but every Blackberry has an alt-escape (similar to windows alt-tab)

Thanks for that information! I was trying to get out via the scroll wheel. I noticed there were two Close items in the menu, and I figured one of them would close the application without exiting it (much like minimize in windows). No such luck.

This is my third BB.... you'd think that one day I'd read the manual.

Does anyone know if you can use this IRC client with the 7520? I tried downloading it and my BB told me it was an invalid JAR file. (note it was a JAD file.)

Unfortunately, jmIrc 0.93 isn't compatible with the Blackberry, and the developer is no longer offering the JAD file for jmIrc 0.92, which was compatible. According to the project site, "This happened because I updated my Java environment and apparently BlackBerries didn't like it."

You might try e-mailing the developer to see if he (or she) will put the jmIrc 0.92 JAD file on the project download page (http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...oup_id=109403).
