Default How often do you use the slide out keypad?

Please Login to Remove!

I have been a Storm 1 and 2 user and I just got the Torch last week.

Using the surepress feature on the Storm is an frustrating experience. Every time you press down, my thumb ends up flatten a bit and I often end up pressing the wrong button. And fixing typo using the touchscreen is almost an impossible task.

With the Torch, it is night and day. I have been using the Torch for slightly over a week and other than the first day trying out the slide out keypad, I have been using the virtual keypad with amazing accuracy (with auto spelling correction).

Just wondering whether there are a lot of people like me.

I would definitely switch to a pure touchscreen if they can knock off 1/4 or 1/3 of the weight.

Every time. my fingers are too big for the virtual keyboard. Pisses me off that the virtual keyboard takes up so much of the screen I cant even read the message above or what I am typing past the last line.

Sounds like we need an app that permanentely hides the virtual keyboard , and the device will understand that the user will either touch or use the physical keyboard only.

I use the physical keyboard far more, mostly out of habit, although I use the landscape more than the portrait.

I use both...

virtual keyboard for short messages/mms/posts/texts, and the physical for longer emails or anything that might take longer in terms on actual use.

I use both.
will use the on-screen if it's just a quick two word reply, but mostly use the slider. As often as not i am sliding out the keyboard just to use the shortcut key to get to whatever app i am looking for..

Exactly. Simple replies the onscreen keyboard and long replies require the keyboard.

do you feel comfortable to type on touchscreen to browse internet or open pictures, etc? Is it worth to have torch? I am thinking about getting one but I love my BOLD, however memory always kills me. Get by many times. I cant get many apps as I wish. I love phyiscal keyboard for sure. Sometimes my wrists are pain. I thought torch would be pefect for me to use touchscreen to browse internet etc, but when I email, bbm, or text, use physical keyboard. I need some fedback.

I use the slide out keyboard all the time. The only time I tap the screen for anything is to click an icon or perhaps a link on a website.

Default Surprised

I always use the physical when its more than a word or two, and really only use the touch-keyboard occasionally in landscape. Not surprising, since I'm coming from a purely physical keyboard background. But what has surprised and delighted me is how quickly and how often I've adapted to the non-text-entry functions of the touchscreen, and how often I use a combination of: 1) physical keyboard text entry; 2) touchscreen for navigation/scrolling; and 3) trackpad for precise selection (of a link or text box, etc.). It happens fast, automatically and seamlessly. I really, really like the Torch.

I agree but from time to time I try to allow myself to be forced to use the technology wave :D
