Default Problem if text follows tel number in contacts ?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I found that if theres text for ex. 1800-2356-890 (Jim Exec Incharge).

The BB dials out some lengthy gibberish number. Im assuming its converting the text also into numbers.

Has anybody else faced this problem ?

Any workarounds. Any particular seperators that can be put after a tel number to include a small word defining that number for eg. whom i should ask for at that number.

Thanks

Yes. The solution is not to place text after a number. Create an entry on the address book for each individual and the title in the proper field.

Place the letters in the "Title" field numbers in the number field.

I used to place text after a number. I didn't encounter problems dialing out, but for an incoming call, caller I.D. would not work properly.

JS > Hi, i know about the title fields and the number fields. Thats the way it usually filled in even in palm. But what i wanted is to append some letters right after the number i just cant put seperate contact entries as the entries belowng to one company. But the note next to the number might be stuff like (for complaints) (for service backup) and such other descriptions. On the palm it just ignores alphabets in the tel number fields.

Trimix > Its the same thing that i did. But its converting the alphabets into numbers i guess and dialing out one huge number and hence the call ends saying its an invalid number.

Thats by design so you can call 1-800-TMOBILE without having to look at a normal phone to translate TMOBILE into 8662453

Plainman007: yes another after the normal number format gets converted. My experience has been with adding a few characters such as: "(123) 456-7890 (AT&T)" (That's how I made a note of what carrier my friends were on). Like I said, I had no problems dialing out. But if they called, caller I.D. wouldn't really recognize them because of the additional text.

The only other option I can think of is to write the descriptor and include the number in the notes section, as discussed in another of your posts.

I'm aware of that but I think you misunderstood the post. We are talking about adding text AFTER the normal number format, not text that is part of the number such as with your example.

Ex: "(123) 456-7890 (Bob's work number but don't call before 10am)"

I don't recall just now, but sometime in the past few months there was a post of a code to place before the text so it would be ignored as part of the dialing string.

Maybe it was a "wait" character. Try that. After the number, press Menu > Insert Wait. the type your text.

If its on the line that says:
Mobile: 123-456-7890 (joes crab shop)
Work: 123-456-7890 (joes crab shop)
Home: 123-456-7890 (joes crab shop)

Then this is expected behavior. As JS says, you can try in this format, the "," (the comma) is the wait character:

Mobile: 123-456-7890, (joes crab shop)

The only reason that would work is the pause makes the phone system think you are done dialing the number and it starts to connect the call. Just like with a landline phone, once your call is ringing on the other end, even pressing more buttons does nothing. That would be why using the "," for the wait character would work. Well workaround i guess.

Hi Ringer,

Yes adding pauses is a good way to trick the system. But it shows a huge option on the screen after dialing out the number. Or was that wait that i used. But anyways its a fairly decent idea. I tried several different type of symbols to see which could get it to ignore the forthcoming characters. None worked. Even adding pauses is creating some problems on tollfree lines with IVR.

Well, you might just be back to entering the contacts in your device in the correct manner, then. It really is the better solution.

Default Whats the glue used to stick back the front LCD glass lens ?

What sort of glue does on use to affix a new LCD lens cover alone for the BB Curve 8310. Just the front viewer glass. My brand new unit just got a very tiny nick on the screen. Ive been having some bad luck with this phone yes. The charger pin hit the screen when i was just undoing it to plu it into the wall. Has anyone changed their LCD clear lens caps ? Id like to know about the glue used as ebay advertises some that come with a couble sided sticky tape.

Thanks

No clue there, but i suggest investing in a screen protector.
