Default Poynt Beta Updated: Now Supports Google Maps Mobile

Please Login to Remove!

*UPDATE* Poynt updated to 0.9.4 --- See latest post for details.

Poynt was updated to 0.9.1 and the automatic update is in place.
Users with versions less than 0.9.1 will see the automatic update message.

If you have versions less than 0.8.6 there is a bug that can cause Poynt to close without launching the browser when you click "Yes" on the update message.

If you encounter this issue, please visit m.mypoynt.com to update to 0.9.1 manually. This bug was fixed in 0.8.6.

To use Google Maps Mobile as a display mechanism for Poynt listings, select Options & Settings->Map Display and select Google Maps Mobile then click save. Currently Poynt supports mapping single listings for Google Maps Mobile. Support for mapping multiple listings with Google Maps Mobile is coming soon.

Power users that use the space key to switch between options will find that their choice will not be saved. This issue will be fixed with the next version. For now, please use the trackball to select your choice, then click save.

Thanks John.

Some of our wifi users have been having connection problems. The fix for this has been discovered and will be available in a couple weeks with our next release. The workaround for now is to manually set your connection type to BIS, BES or WAP.

So for everyone that has been sending us debug dumps, thank you very much! Your contributions to the process were very valuable.

Poynt has been updated to version 0.9.3

It's mostly bug fixes, including a fix which will sort out the WIFI issue some people with wifi devices have been experiencing.

To elaborate, some users with 20 series devices (wifi devices) have complained that they get communication failures when their connection type is set to automatic. This should no longer be the case. For those users who are on the 8820, 8320 or 8120, you will need to manually set your connection type to BES, BIS, WAP or Direct TCP to receive the update.

Alternatively you can visit m.mypoynt.com and download it directly.

Some of our users came back with feedback that they can't use it without GPS. You do not need a GPS chip to use Poynt. You can set your search location by clicking on the bar at the top and selecting "New Search Location". From there, enter a city name, address, postal/zip code, or landmark

Thanks! Still a great app.

One question though...I'm assuming that this is a database issue with the cinema search engine. Sometimes my local theater shows up in the search and sometimes it doesn't.

Will this feature be available in soon?

Yes, and it will probably coincide with our blackberry Bold version. Both arriving shortly.

Can you tell me your search location and the theatre you're looking for? If you don't want to post it publicly just PM me. Also check out our feedback feature. If you message us through Poynt with the feedback feature, we forward all data related emails to our data providers who are very good at updating their databases

I noticed that Poynt 0.9.4 has been made available via the auto update. Can you elaborate on the changes?

Changes are mostly improved stability and tweaks to the back-end services.

The main UI change is gps status notifications in the Search Location bar at the top.

The next update is a big one and will include BlackBerry Bold support, an improved UI, optional yellow pages business listing images, and movie trailers (if you're on a Bold). Currently, older devices do not support movie streaming. We will continue to work on and support older devices.

We can stream YouTube...point us at the trailer there.

My favorite feature...ability to increase the font size.
