Default PC trying to boot from the BlackBerry

Please Login to Remove!

I have Dell Optiplex 760's. If they are turned off and you boot them up with the BB, bold or curve, plugged in they try to boot from the BB and you just get a black screen with a flashing white cursor? The Mass Storage is turned off on the BB's and it is set to boot from the HDD on the PC's.
Any ideas anyone???

Unplug the BlackBerry before booting the machine.

Nice one but I am looking for a solution whereby I can have the BlackBerry plugged in and boot at the same time.

Your bios is set to boot from USB drive. Mass storage enabled or not the system see's it as a usb drive.

Boot sequence is set to
1. Onboard SATA HDD
2. Onboard or USB CD-ROM ( you need the CD-ROM to be able to boot from disk )
3.Onboard Network Controller

???

Perhaps switch your BIOS with reference to the USB CD-ROM bootup option.
Or just unplug the blackberry(s) prior to starting the computer. Eliminates the problem from the get go.

Many older pc's do this. If an external drive is connected or a CD is inserted they override the BIOS startup order and just select that external drive. What Operating System are you running on the pc's? Windows 7 supposedly remedied this behavior, but I have yet to try it.

A lot of bios' have two sections, boot devices and boot sequence. Check both.

The BIOS has nothing to do with the operating system, go into your BIOS and turn off boot from other devices, i would reccomend taking out the boot from USB CDROM as well

Wirelessly posted (8820 from a beach in Delaware)

If you don't need USB, I.e for a keyboard, in dos, you could disable the USB support option in the bios and this would remedy te situation and you would still be able to boot from cd.

Unfortunately that's the whole point! I need the usb to be able to synch and charge the BlackBerry. I have tried the bios, i have changed the boot sequence, i dont have the boot from other devices option, I have set the bios order and boot to only SATA HDD and the bios is not set to boot from usb.

On the BlackBerry side of things through a policy on the BES server the Mass Storage Mode has been turned off. I have however tried booting with an oild 8800 plugged in and it boots fine. Just doesn't boot with the Bold or Curve plugged in.
Looks like it may be on the side of the BlackBerry that's causing all the problems but what???

Just unplug the BB when you boot your computer. The low tech solution is usually the best.

Unplug the blackberry before you turn the computer on... Sometimes, your computer will try to boot using peripheral devices such as flash drives and cameras (or a blackberry) that is plugged in, regardless of the boot sequence in the BIOS

It cannot take but 5 seconds to replug the BB. Why take a chance of causing any issues with it left in.
Why own a BB thats left plugged into the PC anyway. It's not supposed to leave your hand.
