Default Internet on 8700g on O2 (UK)

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

has anyone got internet working on an 8700 on O2(UK). I've tried all the various APN settings I've seen on these forums, and elsewhere, but programs such as OPERA refuse to work, giving the usual 'You do not have a working network connection;

I'm an individual (not business) user on O2, so not on a BES, and everything else works fine.

O2 say my account should be setup for 'everything', but since they don't support 'other applications' they wouldn't help further.

thanks

Charlie

I've got the Cingular version of the 8700c and I'm using it in the UK on O2 and I can browse the web fine using the Blackberry browser. If you are using BIS then the service book sent to your phone should have showed up a browser called "O2 UK Secure WAP". This is what I use.
I have the APN settings in TCP options all blank.

thanks,
I can browse the web fine using the built in browser, but I'd like to use such things as Opera, and MSN Messenger clients, which generally use a direct TCP connection.

any ideas ?

No idea, I don't use them. Didn't know you could get Opera for the BB!

I'm on O2 with an 8700g on BIS as an individual. I am using the following:

under Options>Advanced>TCP

APN: mobile.o2.co.uk
username: mobileweb
password: password

I can use Opera with no problem

One thing, I did have to reset the bb (took out the battery) after putting in the APN info, before it worked.

hmm - I set the TCP APN to this (I already had it set to another APN I'd seen on the web), then rebooted (pull battery), and I get the same error: "You do not have a working network connection".
GoogleMaps, says "could not open tunnel - failed"

O2 say the account is setup for everything, but does this indicate it's not ??

thanks

Could you try the SIM in another phone with GPRS and then attempt a GPRS connection (in a non-bb device the GPRS will have to go through the mobileweb APN) ? If it works then it's probably something to do with the bb. If not then it's O2.

I had my SIM before I got the bb and used it in a Palm Treo 650.

Also, what number are you calling for help at o2? At the general help number they don't seem to know much about the bb and data , etc. If you're not already, call 0870 607 6161 and see if they can help.
