Default BES 5.0.3 DB Migration

Please Login to Remove!

Currently having a battle with a client that is going to be migrating the BES SQL DB.

They plan to re-point the existing server to new storage infrastructure, first by virtualising via the USP-V controller requiring an outage, subsequently migrating the data in background (not requiring an outage).

In the past I have always shutdown all BES/BAS before a backup of the DB is taken and the migration started but the client is not prepared to have BES down for a possible 3-4 hours.

All RIM KB's regarding DB moves/migrations recommened the BES/BAS are shutdown until the DB has completed migrating to its new destination.

Trying to find out what are the consequences of migrating the DB while all BES/BAS are operational and also if the DB needs to be restored from backup, how could any changes made to the DB/Transaction logs etc. be imported back to the restored backup?

Default Re: BES 5.0.3 DB Migration

BES will run with database offline for a while but you wont be able to have BAS or OTA backup functions.

You might be able to stop SQL, PTV and then start the V SQL server up with same IP address and be fine. Make sure you have a good backup.
