I'm a current 9650 user and quite happy with it. It's just that I've always loved the flip phone form factor. I had a Pearl Flip 8200 on AT&T only to be terribly disappointed with everything about it. Too small (especially the postage stamp-sized screen), awful implementation of SureType, laggy OS, and dreadful build quality. The Style corrects all those things.

The only reason I didn't pull the trigger is price. It would be $325 to me to buy one new with my partial discount. I get another $75 off come next May, but that's a full year away. I will have had several new BlackBerrys by then!

I was told by a Sprint rep that battery life is a bit worse than the 9650, primarily because of the faster processor. Current users, how do you find battery life on the Style out in the real world? If it's not any worse than the battery life on my current device I may pick one up used.

TIA.

If you are a heavy user you will notice the difference - especially if you have a PlayBook as well.

To be honest the battery life is very disappointing to me. I run very few apps and talk about an hour on the phone, the battery is usually down to 25% by late afternoon. If I stayed logged out of my social networks it helps. Another downfall is when using my BlackBerry horizontal case the Style does not go into sleep mode, this would really help with the battery issue. I had the Tour prior to upgrading and the battery life was a bit better especially when in my case.

I do love the Style form factor and processor speed, so to me it's worth the sacrifice of the short battery life. I did purchase a desktop charger to keep the battery topped off. I don't use mine as much for business so I have time to charge it in the afternoon which helps. At the end of the day my choice to switch is justified.

I hope this helps in your decision.

Thanks for the hands-on reviews folks! Good stuff here - the kind of issues that never come up in blog reviews. Since battery life is critical for me I will probably wait. I've never been a fan of extended batteries, and this would be an even bigger issue on the Style, whose "style" is such a big part of the allure of this device.

I had debated on the Style over my Bold for some time. I finally got the style in I think Feb. It does have a shorter battery life, but it's a physically smaller battery. I do phone calls, text & bb messenger. Some e-mails, and some days I get and send 10 total, maybe a few more. Sometimes on the way home from work I talk with bluetooth headset. Battery will usually last all day, but I do have a car charger, but then I bought it when I got the Bold. I ADORE the Style, the screen isn't really smaller than my Bold, and I do live on a farm, and work with my horses & chickens. A Flip phone works out SO much better for me, and the screen has not a scratch. My Bold is still in good shape, but a flip is even more protected. I didn't switch because of the newer OS, tabbed browsing or anything else. I switched because it's a flip, and I really do like it.

something djdonnyk just hit me, is he saying that if your BB is in the horizontal position rather than the vertical, it doesn't go into sleep mode, so it drains the battery? Would it be that way on a Curve as well? For some reason hubby's curve battery is not lasting as long, and by coincidence, he just broke his phone case and has been carrying it in his pocket.

Phone cases with the sleeper magnets save a lot of battery life. That's one reason (besides protection) that I use a slip-in sleeve case with my 9650. Battery life suffers noticeably if I carry it naked vs. in the sleeve.

Ok, I hate to sound like an idiot, but that's not going to stop me. Sleeper magnet? I thought it had to do with the position the phone was stored in. When I had my Bold, I just used the case that came with it. It did have a magnetic clasp. There was no slip in sleeve. So it is more a function of a special case than the position the phone is stored in?
Thanks!

Yes, the case is the primary thing but position could be a factor too. If you have the BB in a position where the antenna is blocked or hindered from getting a good signal the BB might be searching for another signal. It's trying to roam, and searching for a signal KILLS battery life.

He i just got mine from BOOST MOBILE for 199 which was not bad .i have always been a fan of the old school black Startec phone this somewhat brings that form factor back and i love that its a blackberry . i had the torch which i really did not like . i never thought i would like a small blackberry but this device is awesome the size is almost perfect for everything. as for battery issues i have not had a it a full 24hrs yet will update in a few days .
