He's the one I bought my unlock from (also on ebay). Should be set up tomorrow - I'll report back with findings once I'm up and running with my TMo SIM...

Does anyone know when T-Mobile will be launching the 8700 or the 7130?

7130 - NEVER - it is a CDMA device which will not work on the GSM network.

The other question has been asked so many time - please search... Cingular probably has a 90 day exclusive. I'd expect March or thereabouts. But who knows.

Default BlackBerry Internet Service on TMO vs. Cingular

Hi,

I noticed a few posts talking about the new BlackBerry Internet Service on T-Mobile. It was upgraded and launched on October 1, 2005.

I like to call it the "Imbedded BIS" vs. the older "Separate type BIS" - since the BIS is not imbedded in the main T-Mobile screens.

It has many enhancements over the older "Separate BIS" found at other carriers today:

1) Much Easier setup of your email accounts
2) Support for Exchange, Outlook Web Access, Lotus Notes, etc.
3) Ability to configure email accounts on the Web Site (PC) or on your BlackBerry!
4) Much simpler lay-out
5) You can even setup VIP email alerts with filters on the BIS - filter all messages from a specific sender to be "level 1 messages" - then on your BlackBerry adjust your profile so "level 1 messages" give you a specific ring tone or vibrate/ring. (This works on all BlackBerry Models - not just 8700c)

FYI - I've documented the step-by-step instructions on how to use and modify the T-Mobile BIS and the "Separate Type" BIS in my latest ebooks.

Check out my 20 free email tips at www.blackberrymadesimple.com

Thanks,
Martin

Thier coverage is very poor in many locations and they have been slow to offer in the U.S. what they offer over seas. In Europe their service and coverage is fantastic. You would sware you were on a land line. In the U.S there are huge holes in their coverage and with UMTS/HSDPA around the corner they are way behind. Cingular will be offering the new high speed service and Cingular will just begin to think about it. Unfortunately they see the U.S. as a cash cow and have not been willing to make the investment to be more competitive.
Barjohn,

Is this true? I'm a little skeptical on this, because I own a 7100T (Quad band phone) and while its known that Tmobile coverage is lacking, they seem to have roaming agreements with just about everyone. Case in point, I was in Vermont a couple months ago and was astonished to have service at my house, BLACKBERRY service no doubt! My parents live in the middle of the woods in Vermont, and have NEVER received cell service from any carrier. I was shocked, and continued to be impressed by the coverage througout Vermont. However, a big "850 mhz" (I think, it said something funky at the top of my screen) was displayed the whole time and my service worked flawlessly. So this makes me doubt that the 1900 mhz is a limiting factor with Tmobile.

Fyi, i just got a 7130e from Verizon and have NOT been very pleased with it. I'm seriously thinking of returning it this week. I only seem to get internet service (IE: email, etc) when i have EVDO, which currentl only has a portion of the city covered (NYC). I used to think Verizon was best but have been seriously disappointed in the past week.

Everything seems to be working as normal. I have not been able to connect using the 8700c as a modem. The only way I can connect is if I do not insert any INIT STRING in the advanced tab. However, I cannot get a routable IP address. I have tried inserting the proxy server address and port # in my browser and inserting the DNS servers. Any ideas?

Are you sure $19.99 monthly from T-Mobile? I can't believe it.

I got a message from service. They say. I copy and paste it.

The 8700c from Cingular can be unlocked for use with a T-Mobile SIM
chip. T-Mobile will launch the 8700 in February of 06.
It is not illegal to process an unlock of a device, the fee is $75.00
and it takes about 24 hours to process

There have been numerous posts and threads about using the 8700c on T-Mo's network. There are many customers who have purchased the 8700c at full price, or off of eBay, and paid a fee to have their 8700c unlocked so the T-Mo SIM can be installed and used. I believe there are individuals selling unlocking services on eBay as well. You can find that information by searching the forum listings.

Think about it. if you unlock T-Mobile from Cingular, How about Blackberry Desktop Manager software? Is they conflict between Cingular and T-Mobile?

A GSM Blackberry is a GSM Blackberry in my experience. There's no specialized Desktop Manager for each carrier. The devices are branded differently and in some cases have physical differences in the design of the exterior case (it's a little bit more complicated than that with some of the 7100's) but for the most part those differences are cosmetic. Functionally, it doesn't matter once you've unlocked the device (assuming that the PIN isn't tied to a carrier's BIS).

Yeah but can they unlock the free ones from the launch parties? Those are the ones that've proven toughest to unlock.
