It cant detect pin and say unknown pin.
continue update progress with unknown pin and it list the new software (5.x.x)
then close first loader.exe and push next on second update instance and it updates the device.
now you have 5 OS without any data plan.
(tnx for someone that explain this method before)

Oh thats quite clever. I didnt think of doing it that way.

the only other way i knew of was risky and didnt always work; basically you had to wipe the device and connect sans JVM right as the bootloader was working. this way the loader.exe would see the phone but would not know anything about it other than the fact that it *needed* an OS.

I'll have to try it your way next time ive got somebody that cant update to 5.0

see wa=hat you get when you search

this is almost the same method i used, u have to somehow get the apploader to say PIN UNKNOWN then it will detect OS 5.0 and it will work.

Hi! I'm new to this forums and was just curious.

I just got a BB 890 last month and I'm so happy with it. My phone is currently using v4.6.1.310 (Platform 4.2.0.127). tried connecting my phone to DM, but it's not prompting me that there is a new firmware available for my phone. Question is if I upgrade my firmware, will this lock my 8900 to a certain network? or will it still remain unlocked?

Thanks!

the auto upgrade doesnt work all that well. IIRC, it will only upgrade you to the latest software that your carrier has released.

to get the latest and greatest, hang out in the beta sections of the forums and you'll see whats newest.

you will have to go through a bit of a procedure: download, install, tweak, load - To get the latest software on your device.

and no, updating software or using software from a different carrier will not lock your device again

and welcome to BB forums

yeah, I actually went through it yesterday and everything went well. I'm liking the new UI Icons, I'm missing the media center though. but overall, good firmware. everything is snappy and no issues yet as of the moment. prolly the reason why the battery is more efficient with this firmware is because the screen shuts off instantly when locking the phone. I'm so glad i ran into this forum and got this firmware!

Smile Is there any way to install OS5 on my 8900 via Mac OS X?

Do we Mac users have any way to install the updated OS or are we just sadly out of luck?

I'm getting so frustrated with the 8900 performance and inability to upgrade that I'm close to jumping ship to get an iPhone. Sigh.

If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

That's not "boot time."

Remove the battery and try again.

the OFF button kinda puts it in a STAND BY state.
if u do a battery pull it will reboot the phone, and trust me its not going to take 5 seconds.

I lost my Texas Hold 'Em as well.... Maybe it's not supported by OS 5.0? I also lost my Blackberry App World application....
