Unhappy 8300 auto connects to internet every 5 mins

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

My first post, so I hope somebody can help. I have a Curve which is costing me a fortune in data charges as it's connecting to the internet every 5 minutes 24 hours a day. Now I have to confess I don't really understand how a Blackberry receives it's email in terms of it being pushed (does this mean the handset doesn't dial in to get my mail?), but my carrier is charging me for this internet connection outside of my monthly Blackberry plan.

Any advice most welcome.

Tom

Welcome to the BBForums!

They should not be charging you extra for email, and your BB does not "search for mail" so to speak. It is pushed to the device by RIMs servers.

You need to look at your installed applications and see who is the offender.
Press Alt+ Escape to see what programs are running the background.

(note: Homescreen, browser, phone, address book and BBMessenger will always be there, cannot close. Make sure it is not an active running browser page).

First off, welcome to the forums.. What is included in your blackberry plan? Typically you get the push email capabilities and some internet usage as well with BB plans. However they all vary.

I would say do a battery pull while the phone is still on to see if that helps. Although I have to admit, I never heard of this happening before.

Hi there,

I think it was some software called BB Today. I can't believe I didn't realise, I have never really looked at it, but it was looking to update stock quotes.

Thanks for your help and advice, much appreciated.

Wow, now that is a gret tip! I just did that and found a few big apps that were still running and accessing the web! No wonder the battery has been dying so fast.

Are there any others tips like that to see whats running or accessing the web we should know? Battery life on the Curve right now is two days at best.
