There is also a windows update from MS that ended up blocking UDP packets. This caused all email for users on that BES to be picked up on rescans rather than the notifications.

Sorry, I can't find any details on that right now.

The issue appears resolved by removing the ‘Security Update 902400’. The update has been on the server since 11/1/2005 but the upgrade apparently triggered the conflict with the BES application.

Could this be the patch that blocks UDP?

I think it is the patch that blocks the UDP packets.

You can remove it and see what happens. It can always be re-installed.

Should it be removed from Exchange or BES or both?

I think it just needs to be removed from the BES.

Hi,
I am just going through a similar problem, though have also had problems with messages not being picked up on rescans.

However, I will check to see if we have the Security Update 902400’ installed and let you guys know how i get on

sorry for lack of updates, i have been flat out on various projects.

We havent installed any updates since installing the server (4.0), so doubt I have this update. Havent specifically checked.

However we all learnt something new - dont reboot the server unless absolutely necessary.

Apparently the 'Blackberry Controller' and 'Blackberry Dispatcher' services shouldnt be restarted unless necessary.

Basically, restarting these services forces the BES to start scanning every single mailbox, including every single folder and subfolder.

If you have large mailboxes, or alot of users, this can cause slow synchronisation, as the server is running the scans, and synchronisation takes a hit because of it.

We had restarted the server twice that morning. Synchronisation was at an all time low. alot of devices not synchronising at all (usually devices with large mailboxes)

We left it that day, the next day, everything seemed fine - synchronisation takes only a minute or so.

could be other factors, so check out this article: KB04789

Restarting the BlackBerry Enterprise Server services may cause delays in message delivery

Also check out: KB13277

might be of use
