Default Blackberry curve 8900

Please Login to Remove!

Hi , i just purchased this phone. Although never used BB before, so i am new to it. the phone is not here yet but i just found out it has no 3g support. Now i will use 3 on it. Does this mean when i am out in an area where there is no wi fi i will not be able to talk to my mates on BBM? was the reason i got it really. kinda pointless really if it has no 3g and you cannot browse / chat to you're mates. As i am someone who also needs to check on football scores too lol.

Please clear for this for me. As i can just ask for a refund and purchase another phone with 3g, if anyone can recommend a good BB phone.

Thanks

You need a *blackberry* data plan on your account to use BBM.

Contact 3 and ask about the BlackBerry Data add-on; it is not the same as an unlimited Internet plan.

Spot on. they charge £5 a month for BB data plan. so even if the phone does have 3g. with this add on even if you are out of wi fi range you can use stuff like facebook , bbm and stuff correct?

Hi guys. i got this Blackberry 8900. seeing i have made a thread for it so might aswell ask here. i topped up £10 02 voucher. £5 have been taken from them. I do see edge on top right hand corner. 02 instructions did say if you see that you are good to go. And i even followed this:

Options, then Advanced Options, then Host Routing Table, then press the Menu key and press Register Now.

or

Options, then Device, then Advanced System Settings, then Host Routing Table, then press the Menu key and press Register Now.

If this does not work for you, take the battery out of your BlackBerry (whilst it is still turned on), wait 30 seconds, and then put the battery back in and turn the BlackBerry on.

But still not internet yet. suppose it will still take 24 hours as i only did it like 4pm (18th August) just concerned that they said once you see edge you are good to go. suppose not always, New to BB so sorry about this.

You are going to have to get a BlackBerry data plan to get EDGE and also reload the software on the 8900 to get rid of the uncaught exception. See the top of the BlackBerry 8900 device specific forum with detailed instructions.

Hmm i think i did it. removed vermal.xml from apploader. Then clicked on Loader i mean it never took 45 minutes to do it seeing i had less files. and my phone only showed images of the phone and computer. So not sure really. unless i can check? still see the same unexpect exception error. so i suppose i done it all wrong.

You can use BBM on EDGE or even GPRS (if it's in capital letters). BBM is very efficient as far as data usage.

Full caps means you have a data connection. Lower-case means you're not in an area with a signal that supports data.
