Default O2 releases BlackBerry 8120

Please Login to Remove!

Looks like the first GSM version of the Pearl 2 to be released:

BlackBerry - BlackBerry Press Releases

Anyone know if it's running OS 4.3? I'd assume so, of course. Hopefully that means the OS is now available for download somewhere....

That's interesting - a quick search of O2's site reveals this page:

BlackBerry from O2 - Help and support

While the software versions aren't anything special, the 'expected update' dates are.

Wouldn't the 8120 ship with 4.3?

Isn't it safe to say the 8120 will get it's own download entry here?

Yes, the 8120 will ship with 4.3.0 and will likely get it's own download entry there when it becomes available. For the 4.3.1, Q1 2008 sounds about right as far as what I've heard.

Now all they need to do is release a 3G version and I'll be happy.

Default USA Availability for the 8120

I stopped by a T-Mobile store the other day and asked if they would be getting the 8120 anytime soon. They did not know but said that new promotions were scheduled for the first week of December. I am hoping the 8120 and $9.99 H@H plan is included.

Bharti Airtel have released it today as well...

Airtel, RIM Launch BlackBerry Pearl 8120

So this 8120 4.3 OS will not work on the original 8100 Pearl correct?

I understand why the 8130 OS won't, but what the logic behind assuming the 8120 OS won't work on an 8100? Is the hardware just too different?

Doesn't the same firmware build work on several GSM variants of the 88XX, where the primary differences are usually GPS and WiFi? Video capturing seems more like a feature than a hardware difference, esp. since OS 4.3 is purported to add the feature to several older models of BlackBerry.

No. 8820 code does not run on an 8800. Or an 8830.
Code hasn't been shareable across devices since the 7210/30/80 series.
8100/8105 codes was shareable. Exceptions.

UK Voda said today "no plans to stock 8120".

We shall see. They're probably contracted not to spoil O2's exclusive.
