Here are a couple pics of the new toy that arrived today... see, it looks pretty black to me.. you really have to get up close to realize its blue.

Also I'd like to apologize for my poor photography skills...

That is a very dark shade of blue. Just like my Samsung T509S, you have to angle it just right or be very close to realize it's not black.

I knew it! See my post above. RIM has done very well with colors. They have turned out quite nice. I would take any color BB.

Default OS ver

got mine yesterday

V4.2.2.193 Platform 2.5.0.43

color is a dark blueberry, not bad but I liked the curve color better.

overall I'm pleased with the phone and a big fan of the telenav GPS.

My one complaint is the speakerphone quality. It's behind the upper back case like the curve but it sounds much more muffled and I haven't found a case like seaidios with the cutouts.

Nice blue color.

Looks like the blue from the 8700g on t-mobile!

Now if only the curve came in that color. Oh ya!

Only one I have seen where I didn't like the color was the Gold 8100. I think it was because the keys were gold too-seemed like a little too much gold. I have the gold Curve and like the color very much.
Ultimately, with all of the options availible for colored skins and sleeves, color should never be a make or break factor in deciding which handset to buy.

I thought that the speakerphone was pretty good back when I had the 8800. Is there something about the one on the 8820 that muffles the sound?

This is one device that is making me want another BlackBerry. I keep moving from WM to BlackBerry to Nokia/Symbian and each has distinct advantages but none really gets it all right...damnit!

Default speakerphone

@^ it "sounds" like the speaker is trying to be really loud but is being muffled/distorted by the back case. Same design as the curve, but side by side, curve speakerphone is better

Speaker Port is on top of the 8830 "Where the sound emits the loudest" .. I guess their logic was that while holstered the speaker port would be pointing up toward you. Big Mistake IMO.

The 8800 I recieved from t-mobile is black. They sent it to me as a replacement for my busted Dash. Have to say it was quite a nice surprise. My wife has the verizon model through her job and that is silver and very hard to see the key pad.

Can someone clarify if the tmo 8820 just only has wifi and if tmo disabled the GPS?

it has gps and wifi...no t-mo did not disable the gps. what makes the tmo 8820 better than the att 8820 is that you can use UMA with the tmo one with tmo service.
