Question No more wifi data on "mobile network only" mode?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everyone,

As I've posted before, I don't use UMA because it doesn't work well in my home (dropped/failed calls) so I've been using the BB with the mobile network option set to "mobile network only" and I still had wifi for data. It has worked fine - until recently.

Now, the wifi data is only accessible when the option is set to "wifi preferred" or "wifi only", which pretty much blows for me. When on "mobile network only" I can no longer get the wifi data to connect (bold wifi icon) even when I scan for networks and it says connection successful.

Did T-Mo or RIM change something recently? It's kind of a pain to switch the mobile network options back and forth when I want to go online or download something, and if the phone rings while I'm using wifi data in UMA mode I'm pretty much SOL.

I did a search on this but didn't find anything. Sorry if this issue has been posted and I missed it.

Any ideas? Thanks.

P.S. Yes, I did a couple of battery pulls!

By definition, mobile network only is only the mobile network. I don't see why this is confusing. I'd say you're mistaken about how it worked before.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, by definition, mobile network only is for the mobile network and it worked just fine in the past but the reason why I posted my question is because now it seems to affect data. And I know for a fact that wifi for data was definitely accessible (before) when it was set to "mobile network only". I learned how to choose that setting from this very BBForum and there have been numerous threads where mods and others have suggested setting the BB to "mobile network only" if UMA didn't work for some reason because the data should still come through as wifi if you turn on the wifi connection and still allow you to use EDGE for voice.

Well, it DID let me do so until recently. Now the wifi connection will be "successful" but the wifi icon is greyed out. And it will only be accessible (bold) if I set my BB to UMA which isn't an option for me since UMA doesn't work in my house and the T-Mo network works perfectly.

Again, thanks anyway Perfect Storm.
