Default No More Speculation: AT&T USA GETS BLACKBERRY CURVE

Please Login to Remove!

So everyone's still going back and forth speculating... just READ the damn press release...

"AVAILABILITY - The BlackBerry Curve (model number: 8300) will be available through wireless carriers around the world, including AT&T in the U.S., beginning this spring."

Rogers will have it branded and available in June, and if AT&T has the same sort of test\brand\launch capabilities they'll likely be the same timeframe, possibly a bit earlier. Remember spring does go until June 21.

This information was taken from a press release issued by RIM on May 3 and can be found at:

Research In Motion

I should note that as a T-Mobile customer I'm disappointed that T-Mobile didn't get exclusive on the 83xx. When I call they offer me the "cutting edge" brand new "8800" ... booo... I really thought they'd get the 83xx

However, I called and asked about it, and the lady said "Blackberry? We have something better for you... a SIDEKICK iD for only $99.00" .... naturally she could not have predicted the number of nasty explicatives I used on her over the course of the following 30 seconds.

All I have to say is BOO!

There's been no speculation on this since 24 hours ago when it was posted here:

I don't have time to be rummaging through posts where the thread title has nothing to do with the content of the thread. I think the mods should disable postings to a thread once the topic sways too far. It's like the telephone game... once you get a page or two into it the topic goes from "My Blackberry won't send\receive MMS, Please help" and then by the time you get two or three pages in someone's talking about how their dog ate their blackberry and crapped a strawberry... comon... gimmie a break... lol.

Questions-

1) Since the 8800 was a ATT\Cingular exclusive, will this in fact be exclusive to ATT at the launch? And if it is, would a "8820" that nobody seems to even know exist (cause why would they release a second model with the same features and have wifi in one and not in the other, this has never happened where they release two GSM models of the same profile side by side on the same technology platform, why would they start now?)... would this said "8820" be blocked from release by say T-Mo by an exclusive agreement?

2) Why is the 8800 so expensive relative to the 8100? It's almost the identical device... heck it doesn't even have a camera... why is the "retail" aka "ebay" aka "unactivated" price in the $475-$550 range when the Pearl is about $275-$325 in the same scenario... the 8800s no longer new so not sure why it would be fetching that... Any insight anyone?

Thanks!

The Pearl is cheaper because it has been out longer, demand is lower, etc. It also reflects the price point that Research in Motion is aiming for. Recently I've seen more people than ever using the Pearl -- and most of them weren't business users.

IMHO the 8300 is going to be a consumer device with QWERTY (and no squeaking rails) -- but nothing more.

I'm still unfazed and unexcited by the prospect of a WIFI Blackberry. I don't believe that Research in Motion will put WIFI (which could be a way to bypass the use of a data plan) very high on their list of features to add.

Just my .02

Fine. The Mods will close this thread because there are already half a dozen threads saying the same thing. Sorry your time is too limited to look before posting.
