Although that does happen to me once every 2 months or so (and i'll need to do a full hard reset of the BB to get it to function again), I don't have problem when going in and out of service areas. I drove x-country, dropping in and out of service and I'd get my emails if I had any every time I'd hit an area that provided GPRS coverage.
And to add to the list of "nuisances", the middle of the battery cover is taller than the rest of the back of the phone. And thus, it gathers scratches right along that ridge. But I guess its better than scratching the rest of the case, since battery doors are cheap. The other nuisance is how the edges of the case rise up to meet the keyboard, making it hard to hit the Q, A, P, and Del buttons. I tried my dad's 8700c, which is completely flat relative to the keypad, and its much easier to type on. But then again, dark blue is much better than silver.
