I have a user who I had to remove from BES and set back up. We made a backup of his data because he really likes the password keeper application. When I try to restore that data via the Advanced option, "Password Keeper" is greyed out on the right side (Device Data) so I cannot restore just that database. There are many items greyed out. I tried looking into my BES IT Policy, but couldn't find any settings for that.
Is it possible to "un-grey" those options to make them available for restore?
Yup...I know how to fix this...and its done this way by design...(according to RIM)
1) Unplug device then go to Options\Service books
2) Delete the "Desktop Sync" service book
3) Plug device back in and open the Desktop manager
4) Go to "restore" and you should now be able to restore all of your previously dimmed out items.
The service book gets recreated after the restore is performed -- if I remember correctly.
Please let me know if it works for you...

Reason: Wanted to know if the solution worked....
I just did it and it works perfectly (tested the password keeper before and after the deletion of the desktop sync servce book)...we're on Exchange 2003 on a 4.X BES but I can't imagine that the same process would not work for Domino...as soon as I disconnect from the BDM, it reloads the service book...could be that in the time between deleting and plugging back in, the service book got resent. Try turning off the radio before you delete the service book and only turn back on when done. This should work fine...

If you wiped the device, the Password keeper is not installed by default on some devices...check to see if it is on your device, if not just install the password keeper and then you will be able to restore the database.

Go to Enterprise Activation and type ALT + CNFG in the email field. Then turn off wireless sync. Then you'll be able to restore the password keeper database and any other database that was greyed-out. This kind of works the same as pulling the service book off...
I am still trying to move my old password keeper database from my 7290 to my new 8700. I backed up the database before I got the new unit. I keep getting the message that it can't restore the "Read Only" database. Any suggestions?
Thanks guys. I just went through all of this trying to restore an autotext file, even the "data was not recognized by the device" error, but you guys helped me solved it.
Thank God, because T-Support was useless as ever. The first response from the idiot I spoke to was that he didn't think you could restore an autotext file. When we got to the data error, his advice was to take the battery out and reboot it. Considering the $1500 my company had to spend, this site is the best deal on the web. RIM should be embarrassed.
