Default exchange global address book

Please Login to Remove!

My company uses 7280's and BES 4.0.

I have had several users ask me if there was a way to import our exchange global address book to the blackberry. Is there an easy way to do this, other than adding our entire global address book to their outlook personal contacts?

Thanks for any comments.

Why would you want to import the whole address book when you can do the lookup function to find email addresses? I try to keep my address book lighter by not having eveyone's addresses. If I need one who is not in my contacts, I use lookup.

I would have to agree with kelvin. You will save tons of memory and time by using the lookup function.

I agree the look up feature is very convenient. I type in the name or a part of the name (first and last initial also works) and if the contact does not come up in my contact list, you just push the wheel and select Look up and a few seconds later you have the matching names from the gobal address list. If it is some one you will use a lot add it to your contacts right there. Otherwise just click again and select to call, e-mail or pin - assuming all of those are in the global list.

My users want to be able to address and type e-mails when they are out of coverage and then have the mail go out as soon as coverage resumes, which you can't do with Lookup.

Actually you can do the lookup and when they get back into an area with coverage it will look up and resolve the names. They will just need to send them out. Downloading the entire global address list is BAD...... It creates serious issues if someone's email information changes. Because it doesnt automatically resolve if the GAL is downloaded. Besides the fact their BB will run like crap because of low memory.

I would not recommend downloading the entire GAL to the BB. Recommendation for your users: add a "dummy" address to your contacts that doesn't go anywhere. Compose the email and save as draft. When they are back in coverage, use lookup to change address to correct person.

I'll pitch that to them. Problem is we used to use Goodlink where they could address e-mail using the GAL while out of coverage, so they'll see it as a step backwards.

thanks for the responses, I was unaware that the lookup function would work on the GAB, tried it and it works great.
