Default "Video Out" feature for playing on TV's?

Please Login to Remove!

Hello, I as wondering if anyone knows of any exsiting hardware and software that could be used to play videos on a pearl on a TV through a TV's Aux inputs. This would be a really neat feature.

If something like this does not exsist maybe someone could write a program that would modify the popup menu screen in video mode to include a "video out" feature. It would be even better if at anytime in any program(including the home screen) you could duplicate the blackberry screen on your TV.
This would be convenient for people who travel and would like to use a fullsize blackberry keyboard to type emails, text messages, text documents.

All you would need is a program and some combination of cables to connect from the usb(and maybe headphone) jack to a TV.

I would be interested in funding all or part of the development of a program.

Let me know if anyone sees any obvious problems that would make something like this impossible.

As far as I know, the Pearl does not produce any video output through any of its jacks/ports so it wouldn't be possible. Furthermore, I assume that the low video resolution would look pretty bad on a TV.

Just my impression. There are probably people a lot more technie than me on here that can go deeper into this.

Ok, I hope you are wrong. Just kidding. Anyway, I found this program that allows you to display powerpoint presentations from your blackberry to a projector. Is this not the same theory?

website- blackberryforums would not allow me to post a website. The company name is "Impatica." Google it with the word powerpoint and it should come up.

THIS HAS TO SOMEHOW BE POSSIBLE!!!!

Impatica ShowMate works differently. ShowMate consists of a small box with VGA-output, desktop software and BB software. You copy the PowerPoint file from your PC to the BlackBerry and from there to the Impatica ShowMate device. The BB is only used to control (show next slide etc.) the PPT presentation, the viewing is done completely through the ShowMate box.

Sorry, but to display on a TV would require the ability to convert the screen image to an NTSC (or PAL) signal. I seriously doubt RIM has built it into the phone. It would also suck battery badly. My 4G ipod can do it for still images, and batter life goes from ~18 hours to ~2 hours when it's engaged.

When they design the 8100, I don't think they were planning to do something like that anyway.

As it is now, there are a few videos that does not work on the 8100. You have to modifiy the video so it will work on the 8100.

Also the resolution will be pretty bad on the t.v.

So forget about it. It will never happen.

And if there's a slim chance it does happen, I will not buy it and do it

If you really need a small size device to hold you videos and be able to hook up your t.v., than get a device that is specially made to do that.

Not possible or practical. The best you can do is put some videos on the MicroSD chip and carry them around on the 8100, then download them on to a PC elsewhere.

But, even if this was possible, the files are too small to be played on anything bigger than a 2" x 2" screen. Have you played on your PC video files converted to work on the 8100? The video is about 2" x 2" on my 19" flat panel monitor.

Try blowing such videos up to play at a larger resolution [typically increasing the zoom on most video player controls]. The video looks so blurry it's ridiculous.

Moreover, even if it could be done, there is no market for such because there are hundreds of alternative ways to present video to a group of people.

No doubt someone might tinker with the idea just to see if it can be done, but other than a few people remarking "that's cool" the idea would not go beyond that.

Wow. Get with the program. I get a kick out of posts from people who do not think an all in one device is in their future. This would be a very easy feature to add on future phones so be prepared to take your dvd collection on a business trip.

I think the key word in your statement is 'future'.
