Default 8310 GPS not working

Please Login to Remove!

Got my new 8310 today. Fresh out of the box, but I can't get the GPS to hook up. In the advanced options menu, under GPS, all I get are a bunch of 0's. (for Lat/Long, everything). If I refresh the GPS, it won't find any satellites and everything remains 0. Indoors or out. It seems like the GPS receiver is completely dead. Do I have to activate it or something?

Thanks for the help.

Default Hey lousy...

A buddy told me that for my GPS to work, I needed to activate something called "Telenav" for about $10 bucks a month here in Vancouver. I would assume that wherever you are, you will need to "activate" some kinda monthly data plan.
Cheers!

No, you don't have to "activate it" or anything. You're probably not getting reception. If you're inside or in a steel building, you may block the signal.

I just tried what you did when I was inside, and it took quite a while for it to respond.

I bought mine a week ago & had the same problem.
Just go outsied in the open and then try it.
It will work.

Worked for me, will work for you too.

I have a friend who could never get a fix until get ordered the $10 per month Telnav and now it works fine!

I expect like other GPS units, the GPS needs to find out where it is first. After this initial fix, it should find it's location faster.

My dear I am using it for free with google maps and nav4all.

You don't have to pay to use the built in GPS of BB 8310.
All you have to do is to have the software on your set to
use it. Like a preloaded Blackberry maps, it comes loaded
on 8310.

BB 8310 comes with a built in GPS and preloaded with Blackberry maps software.
It's free and works perfectly.

No one has to pay to anyone to get GPS started.

It's already built in and works when you turn on your 8310.

That's it !!

My Dear? HA!

I am simply telling you what happened to a friend..

You simply got bent out of shape here. I did not say you HAD TO PAY. I said his BB started working after he installed TelNav. Read it again, please.

Software included but no maps. The GPS is free to everyone! The GPS receiver is not near as good as my 60CSX Garmin but then my Garmin does not work well as a phone either! <vbg>

Cingular/AT&T remove Blackberry Maps, but savvy users know how to re-add them by editing the lbs.alx file. All of our 8310's now have BB Maps and the GPS works fine. I have noticed that the task sems to lock up requiring a battery pull. Immediately on reboot. goto Options, Advanced, GPS. Hit the menu button and select Refresh GPS. Give 45 seconds to a full minute and you should pull coordinates from 4-5 satellites, then it should work fine.
