Default BB7290 Which Bluetooth Headset? BT250, HS801, 810 or 820?

Please Login to Remove!

Long time larker, first time poster! I Love this forum!

Just got BB7290 (Cingular) last week. Compared to my fisrt BB7280, this 7290 is much better. Excellent everything, including using it as modem for my laptop, absolutely no issues so far.

Now that I want a Bluetooth Headset, which one out of these 4 would you recommend for 7290? Pros / Cons?

(1) Jabra BT250
(2) Motorola HS801
(3) Motorola HS810
(4) Motorola HS820

Any one of these have replaceable rechargeable battery? Couldn't find in their websites.

I would like to choose out of these 4 only as Cingular seems to sell these, so if I buy from them hopefully they will give less runaround in case of any issue between the products of two companies. So far, I am impressed and much happier with the Cingular support folks and processes than I was with AT&T GSM support (pretty much useless offshore support except for few exceptions).

Thanks in advance gang!

~ Peter.

This is the headset you want:

http://store.bizshopr.com/plam3500.html

Replacable battery, car charger, home charger, leather carry case and awsome noise canceling.

It is my new favorite.

Are you able to use the famous "flip the boom out to answer" feature?

And will folding the boom back in end the call?

I've had generally bad experiences with BT headsets (1st gen Jabra, all SE headsets up to the HBH-60) with the SE T39m and T68i. They all sounded crackly unless you have the phone about a foot from your head as you wore the earpiece! (What's the point?)

I would only HOPE things have improved over the past two years. Have they, or is it still *snap! crackle! pop!*? Because if it is, a 7290 and BT headset combo will be a pass for me.

I've got the BT250 and it works like a charm. No issues on my 7290 at all.

Thanks,

I've just been scouring through all the BT related posts. People seem to like the model 250, it seems!

I remember having the first Jabra. I was always paranoid about the headset's battery life. But I guess if the new Jabra's battery life is better than the original one (8hrs talk vs 3hrs), then maybe leaving it on isn't so bad.

rcg, what has convinced you that the Plantronics M3500 is the best? Can you be more specific. I know you have tried most of the units so what makes this one stand out? Have you tried it with the 7250, 7100, 7520 and 7290? Is there a difference when you try different phones? Do you reccomend a particular headset for a specific phone?

How about size, weight and comfort?

Default Motorola HS820

I was thinking of getting the Motorolla HS820 for my 7290. Anyone know hao good this one is? I've got a good price lined up, but I want to make sure I am getting a good headset. I am new to Bluetooth, so advice would be greatly appreciated.

I bought the HS810 for use with my 7290 and I really like it. One question I have though is there a way to make it so I don't have to accept the connection everytime I open the boom. Can it be set to automatically accept my bluetooth headset.

Go to bluetooth setting and select options and make it a trusted device. It will automatically connect when you flip the boom out after that with no confirmation required.

I have a 7290 and a Jabra 250, works get.

How do you use you 7290 as a modem for your laptop? I'm unable to find anything on it and was told by AT&T it couldn't be done.

BJ,

The m3500 has the best fidelity of any of the headsets I have tested - and you know I have used the most popular ones. Most of the time the calling party has no clue I'm on the headset and it's noise canceling is quite good! I look for fidelity first. That falls under clarity(freq. Response), signal-to-noise, dynamic range and noise canceling. Comfort is a very personal issue so it's hard to tell people what to wear. I figure I have medium ear size. The m3500 is not the most comfortable I have tried but for hour or less session its fine.

We are trying to develop a protocol for recommendations of "this phone and that headset" but some of these issues seem almost handset specific. For example one user may say the HS850 is awesome with a BB7520 but another user says "I had to smash it because of echo'. I think it may be time to have a BT forum on the board.

We are currently using SEt637, BB7100t and GSM Treo 650 for testing. I just ordered a v551 moto and one of our staff has a BB7520. This gives a reasonable cross section of popular devices but as I said some of these issues almost seem Handset specific.

I have read your reviews of various models and agree with many things you wrote. As you point out some of your nits may be personal preference, others real world performance testing.

We have used it with a staff members 7520 and it worked BUT I have a report from a customer that it doesn't. This is what I mean above about issues becoming almost handset specific rather than model.

The late production Jabra BT250 works with everything so as a fallback we usually tell people to consider it. We were unable to get the BT800 to work on the 7520. Our US version moto HS 850 has a slight echo on the 7520....

As sonn as tmo releases the 7290 I will order one and begin testing on it.

To bring a stale thread back to life...

I've been testing out BT headsets for purchase for my users... I've tried to BT250, HS810 and HS801.

The verdict: HS810 is the best of the group (and not coincidentally, the most expensive). The only gripe I have is that it never feels secure on my ear. Skip the HS801, the reception is terrible and answering a call is almost as clunky as with the BT250. BT250 fits very well, sounds great and costs less, but is more cumbersome to operate than the HS810.

EDIT: These were tested with multiple BB 7100t's running 3.8 and 4.0 OS, as well as a Motorola V600. The HS801 produced an annoying high pitched constant feedback for people on the other end of the line when used with a BB 7100t.

I just bought an hs820 today everyone I spoke with today could not even tell I was on a bt-headset. To me I could tell just a little difference to the wired head set. The only 2 things is the fit doesnt seem secure on my ear (as stated above each pearson could be differnt) and it only goes over the right ear. But the price was right $50 with an ac charger. This is on bb7520.

I've got a BT250 and it is flawless for me. The only problem is that it kinda hurts my ear a little after wearing it for a while.
