Default Explain Memory Leakage

Please Login to Remove!

I just installed .114 the day before yesterday and I'm not having any bad issues to speak of. But I keep reading about Memory Leak, Can sombody explain this.

My Memory is currently at--- Application Memory 7.7MB ---
Device Memory--- Total Space 879.2MB --- Free Space 874.8MB ---

I really don't know if I have memory leak or not. I havent added any thing to my BB except a few Wall Papers and a couple Themes.

TIA

I just deleted Slacker, of which I couldn't get to work and my Application Memory went up to 26.3MB

If you have a leak, your application memory will continue to dwindle (usually in 24/48 hours) down to 0 or very close.

The device will begin operate very slowly!!

A battery pull seems to be the only thing to take care of it at this time.

Good explanation of memory leak:

Memory leak - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
In computer science, a memory leak is a particular type of unintentional memory consumption by a computer program where the program fails to release memory when no longer needed. This condition is normally the result of a bug in a program that prevents it from freeing up memory that it no longer needs.

I removed Slacker Radio as well...not really impressed with it. Freed up a lot of memory.

The definition that Daphne posted is about the best I have seen. Make sure that you don't have any apps that you are currently using, still running.

Uh, 7 megs memory is terrible. You should read up on these forums and work on that. The lowest mine sees is 20-ish, and then I know it's time for a battery pull. That usually gets it up to 40+meg.

On the other note, not really impressed with Slacker?? What? Are you kidding? I've had Sirius, and XM for many years, and Slacker totally destroys them, not to mention it's free. Did you ever try caching any of your favorite stations?

Well...it uses 31 megs of memory. Hence, not impressed.

Problem solved, my Storm had an IT Policy on it that Verizon Wireless and BB Tech Support can't explain. The Firewall was enabled and locked. BB Tech Support walked me thru a process to reset the phone to new.

All is well, Slacker installed and Rockin On.

Thanks everyone
