Bug?
Please Login to Remove!
Guys,
I'm using BES (server version 4.0) on P990i with BB connect version 3.37 and latest firmware. When I leave my phone in the cradle for some time (5-10 minutes), it will lose connection with BB and I cannot reconnect. I have to restart the phone to restart the service. The application also seems to crash when I'm making a longer (20 minutes) call.
Anyone else having these problems? Or knows what to do?

to "gve" & "BigFeat"
gve: having same problem, bbc closes when put in the cradle AND when I sync contacts over bluetooth, have to restart, did you get anywhere with this problem?
BigFeat: in order to surf on internet, wap or use wayfinder, all using gprs, I've to close down bbc, is it a configuration issue? any clues in that case?

Bjorne, no solution yet. Maybe wait for next version of BB Connect?
About the surfing issue: in my case I can surf without closing BB. I think it has to do with the configuration of internet group connection on your device. I noticed that if I first remove BB Connect, then remove all internet connection, configure the internet connection again FIRST and then install BB connect, it works! Maybe this helps...

gve: same problem here, the BBC freezes after staying a while in the cradle. It shows being "off". If I try to put it back "on", it freezes.
While you surf the net, the BBC remains connected, or it gets disconnected and it connects back again? I mean, it's icon in the status bar is flashing or is solid blue when you surf the net?
Thanks.

unlike P910i, P990i is able to hold more than 1 data session concurrently. Thus, it can initiate a new data connections for your surfing while maintaining the BB data connection.

In my case it will hold the connection and the icon will stay solid....like Tankee531 says, it can do more then one session. Altough, sometimes (not often though), and I cannot see a pattern, it will pause the BBC session...
I still think it has to do with the order of installation, see post above...

How to configure concurrent data connections?
In my case BB blocks all other traffic and I have to turn it off to be able to use other internet connections!

concurrent connections working
It now works for me, but only if I stay "GSM only". If I go "GSM and 3G", I cannot have another connection in parallel with the Blackberry one. But if I stay 2G it does multiple connections, without me changing anything! Anyway, on 3G I barely get a day of battery with the Blackberry service on. With 2G, I get almost 2 days, and it works beautifully. It even crashes less often!
A very nice smartphone.

3G does chew up more battery juice than GSM, even in standby mode

Use the P990i with BB connect for few days and drop it. It is not the BB connect issues. The P990i is one bad phone. It hang all the time and its not stable. Not just with BB connect but just the phone stand alone. I think SE this time really cheating everyone by producing such a good for nothing devices.

current firmware has a memory leak issue that would typically cause insufficient available memory after 1-2 days of usage.
using swiss manager pro would help to clear up some memory and prolong the "life" of P990i (no swiss manager pro does not resolve the memory leak)
SE is said to be working on the memory issue. The new firmware, currently in beta, will give some 1-2MB available memory upon fresh restart. Hopefully the memory leak will be plugged too when it is released.

I canxxx8217;t beleave it!
Yesterday I called Telenor in order to get a hold of Blackberry connect v3.45 thatxxx8217;s supposedly needed for this new firmware for the P990. They said I should get it from SE. I checked their site and they only provide the old version. Today, I called SE asking about that. The support guy said something was wrong; it was not possible for me to have a blackberry server?? Plus, SE donxxx8217;t support it or provide it, the BB connect software is licensed and needs to be bought from blackberry?!?
I got pissed, I told him to look at his SE site, there it is, but itxxx8217;s the 3.37 version. He runs of talking to some manager for the second time. When he comes back he said that this download if only for one customer who needed a special service. They bought a lot of phones and that version are modified just for them and he couldnxxx8217;t understand why it was on the site since it wasnxxx8217;t supported AT ALL. This time I could probably get the client from my provider.
Whatxxx8217;s the deal with this damn client?

BB connect belongs to RIM, customised by SE for its phone, licensed by telco to distribute to its subscribers.
so far, BB connect software and its desktop software have been provided on telco's website. (until recent 3.37 on SE, that's a first).
heard that 3.45 licensing is being finalized thus not widely available yet but should be soon.
forget about SE service centres, clueless people. some do not even know that new firmware for P990i is available.

Has anyone with T-Mobile USA been able to get 3.45 to work with R9? I have the software loaded and everything but when I go to the mytombile website to enter the pin and imei number, it gives me an error saying, handheld change failed. unknown error. Can anyone help me connect this?
