Default 8300 won't make calls

Please Login to Remove!

I have just been given a 8300 from a mate who couldn't get it to work properly. I have done a wipe using JL CMDR and installed the latest software. The phone boots up and recognizes the sim, I can use the menu's, take photo's but cannot make calls or send SMS. I have spoken to O2 and they say the phone isn't blocked and it hasn't been unlocked. Any ideas? If it is a software thing I hope it is an easy fix otherwise I will have to send it away for repair and I have no warranty.

Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. I have 4 bars and gprs in the top left hand corner. This is a pay and go sim card and therefore does not have data.

I have had a look under Services Status>Voice Services>Status: Not Available. Why would this be?

My bet is that it has an IT policy on it:

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8700/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Some carriers don't allow smart phones to work on their prepay service. Do you know anyone with regular service? Try their SIM in it and see what happens

Let's not discount the obvious as well. Just to cover all bases, make sure the radio is on. Blackberry Menu > Manage Connections. I only say this because it's exactly the kind of thing that has tripped me up and cost me hours searching for problems that didn't exist. PEBCAK. (Problem Exists Between Chair And Keyboard).

I tried that john, but no joy. Now I am stumped. And the radio is on. When I asked O2 they said that they did allow calls with no data plan.
