Default OS: 9800 6.0.0.862/6.0.0.284 (Multilanguage)

Please Login to Remove!

BlackBerry Handheld Software v6.0.0.862 (Multilanguage)
for the Torch 9800
Will install on any carrier's 9800 by following the instructions below.

Package Version: 6.0.0.862
Consisting of:
  • Applications: 6.0.0.284
  • Software Platform: 6.4.0.120
  • File name: 9800M_PBr6.0.0_rel862_PL6.4.0.120_A6.0.0.284_Bouyg ues.exe
  • File size: 163.23MB
Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Download the OS file here:

https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...43CD802642223D

Instructions for installing on the 9800:

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process may take up to 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a black "BlackBerry" screen with a status bar for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again, and it should load the OS to the device.

Installing now.
About 7 minutes into the 'initialization' portion.

At this point I don't recommend this OS. In the Notifications tab you can't touch an email to open it. It just opens the calendar. Hey, RIM! Nice job. Major fail.

I even tried downgrading the themes to the themes from the last build but it's not in the theme. Don't install this if you like to open emails from the Notifications page.

I'm downgrading back to .246.

.246 was working very well with my device so I downgraded.

.284 smoothness was nice, but the few bugs was not worth keeping.

So, not everyone is seeing the problem where emails won't open from the notifications page?

No, my emails opened from the notification bar AOk. John I don't know where you downloaded your OS? I downloaded from BB site I had to d/l twice before getting the whole 163mb. The first download was shy of 163 but showed completed. The DL was chopped.

Right now, the download link given above is the only download available for this release.

And an incomplete download would not even install to the computer. So that's not it.

My e-mails do not open from the notification line. All that happens is the calendar/phone screen that is not customizable opens.

So what's the verdict on this OS release? Does not sound like it is a good update at all going from 6.0.0.246.

I think it is a pretty solid release; i am not having issues opening any emails from the notification bar. I also noticed the menus being a little snappier and also battery life has improved quite a bit.

Yeah, I installed this release and it seems to be very solid for me. Email notification goes to email as it should. Overall seems more polished than 246.

I am not 100% sure, but from other forums I get the impression that the notifications open if you use the trackball, but do not if you use the touch screen.
