Thumbs up Tour 9630 OS 5.0.0.419 >> AMAZING Battery Life!

Please Login to Remove!

My Tour charged overnight last night.

It turned on automatically and woke me at 6:00 AM, over 8 hours ago.

It's 2:16 PM.

I have been mailing, texting, using Viigo, browsing some web pages, and made a couple short calls.

My battery life is still at 90%!! (only 1/2 a bar down!)

With 4.7 or 5.0.0.230, I'd probably be near (or below) 50% by this time of day with similar use.

My Blackberry now lasts on one charge from Friday morning through the entire weekend and then some.

Utterly amazing improvement.

I am REALLY impressed!

Is everyone else seeing the same?

Cheers to RIM!

(of course heavy phone use will suck the battery down...)

Similar while at home. Of course, I can see the water tower with the antenna stuck all over it if I go outside and look north.
At work, the building blocks the signal, and until I install the extender, I am stuck charging it while in the window :(

I feel the build does improve connectivity but at the end of the day I am still using a network extender. I feel your pain

Much better battery life here. Dramatic over 4.7.1.xx.

I have actually seen worse battery life. I think this is due to me being on BES and our system not recogninzing the software. At least thats what my IT guys tell me. Anyone else on BES tried this version yet?

Well I just finished loading last night, so far I am not seeing alot of battery differences. What I did notice is improved browser speed and automatic BES re activation. I couldn't believe after the reboot that it automatically reloaded the BES, has anyone else experienced this yet?

When I logged into the BES server it does show 5.0.0.419 handheld software so I will report back after a few days of usage.

I am on BES and everything seems fine. My battery lasts longer than 4.7 and 5.0.0.230, but I wouldn't call it amazing.

What really eats battery ever since I got the Tour is phone. A long phone call will just eat the battery up bad. No or short calls the battery will last a couple days easy.

I have a BES, with encryption, content compression, timeouts and memory cleaning etc. My administrators don't specifically forbid 5.0, but they don't support my problems if I have any.

That said, the battery life is significantly better. I'm pushing the device pretty hard with 100+ emails, things like Bluetooth on (unpaired, except for 2 hours a day of driving), Google Maps reporting to Latitude, UberTwitter ever 30 minutes, GPS On, and some weather apps pulling new weather (trying to find a good one - settling on BeWeather, I think) and I'm able to get a full day (18 hours) out of the device, even when throwing in an hour of talk. On 4.7, I'd struggle to get 12 hours. I'd say it's about 30-50% battery life improvement depending on my use.

When I turned nearly everything off, I was able to go 2 days easily.

Thats odd because i had to have my IT people give me a new password to reload EVERYTHING BES. Maybe thats why im running slow, I have 2 sets of BES files on my phone as I didnt wipe it before the upgrade, totally forgot to. On the other hand, my company knows its a leaked version and have not uploaded this software version to our servers so I am crossing my fingers that that is the issue. Have any of you on BES had the phone reset with a white screen saying APP 532 Error and RESET. when i press it, the phone resets and all is good. Really weird.

I'm a BES administrator and your IT guy was blowing smoke up your ass. If your BES server is so out of date that it can't handle a 5.x handheld OS, then you wouldn't connect to it at all.

However, because this is beta software, it's possible that it's not optimized and is transmitting a lot more than it should be.

Double-however...my device (attached to a BES, of course) is getting great battery life. I can go just about 40 hours between charges, and this is while the device is in my apartment, which gets like one or two bars, so it's using more battery to keep that connection going.

I'm very happy with the battery life and am wondering how much better the actual release version will be.

I've noticed poor battery life. But, I'm thinking it may be due to Google Maps (using lattitude).

I didn't really notice the degradation in battery life until after I installed that.

I also found the battery life quite poor on this build. When I saw the post, I thought its' subject to be a bit of sarcasm. I cant make it through a full day with my normal usage.

I have had excellent battery life on this build, but I don't often talk on the phone a lot. I read elsewhere, and it appears correct, that phone usage seems to be the biggest drain in this build. So if you use the phone a lot you probably don't want to go here.

I have found several other problems however and am ready to downgrade.

Well after a full month on this build it has been very good, there are a few apps that won't run however that I have found below:

1 Sprint navigator/navigation
2 Berry buzz color

I was able to load memory booster without any issues, anyone else able to run these apps on Sprint?

I've found battery life to outstanding with this release of 5.0.

I did, however, completely wipe the old OS off with JL_Cmdr before upgrading to 5.0.0.419
