Default Pearl OS v4.5?

Please Login to Remove!

I assume many have heard about this new update but does anyone have it yet? Sounds like the best feature update yet (stereo BT, streaming, document editing). I don't see a recent thread on it so if I missed it I apolgize.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8310/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/107)

It has not been released yet, that's why it wasn't posted as a link for download.

To the best of my knowledge they are just renaming v4.3.1 Obviously people already have 4.3.1 but us 8100 pearl users we'll go straight to 4.5.

They said they were doing this because of all the things in it that they have done in it. I thinks its just marketing scheme.

However i cant wait for some new features!!

4.3 is completely different than 4.3.1, now named 4.5. The pearl 2 devices don't have html email or document editing. The denomination of the OS is to signify a major upgrade, and possibly marketing

Found post from a dude who has the beta version. Says it works as advertised. Because it works in concert with the new BES version they will be released together, supposedly the BES version scheduled to release Feb. 29. That's all I can find out now.

Can the IT guys atomatically intall these new software versions on to the corporate BB OTA or do you have to request it and hand it in (when it arrives that is)

Seeing how it takes mine 15 minutes to install connected I have to beleive you'd have to hand it over.

I'm wondering how this will trickle out to folks like me on BIS...whether RIM will post the update publicly, or if I'll have to wait for a carrier to post it. Anyone have any idea?

Since you are on Verizon you can be sure that you will get the update....by 2012!!! You might get lucky and another CDMA carrier will post the update for you to download and install. Watch the sticky section for updates to the 8130. I know for the GSM world any OS for the 8100/8110/8120 will work with any of the same phone regardless of carrier. For, the server side technologies, such as HTML Emails, you will have to wait for Verizon to upgrade to the new version on the server.

I am waiting with great anticipation for the first official release of 4.3.1/4.5 as I have been running the beta successfully and seemed to have figured out most bugs I have come across making it liveable but not perfect.

Good luck!!!

You have to ask the IT guys directly.

Anyway, this is still rumored.

this is misunderstanding: 4.5 will provide HTML preview for emails which has nothing to do with server side.

the BIS 2.4 doesnt support HTML email at this point, Bis 2.5 is supposed to give this. you will need both pieces in order to have this

two different things:
- html interface (e.g. gmail, yahoo): requires server config has nothing to do with OS (you can open gmail, can you?), no way to make all html servers wap compatible
-html content view in email currently only third party client apps server side not required.

not gonna argue with you, but from the people in the know here, who have posted, it requires a BIS server update, not just the OS

Sith is correct. 4.3.1/4.5 is not enough for html email (though it is required.) The BIS upgrade to 2.5 will also be required. For BES users, it will require a BES upgrade that is coming out soon, as well.

hmmm. maybe if you configure email server. I did postix/cyrus/apache.

BES is using MS Exchange for email. Enterprise server provides backbone, for service. It is used to synchronize data between email server (e.g. MS Exchange) and BlackBerry wireless devices.
BES provides administrators with the ability to connect pre-defined performance data.
BES allows centralized management of AD, SQL, cytrix, IIS, DNS and more. Well it is a little more complicated than email.

I don't see any point of arguing.

To understand to some extent what BES does simply read
BlackBerry - BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Microsoft Exchange

MS Exchange provides email services, for web interface, you need IIS (to keep with MS). All groupware structure is provided by MS Exchange (calendar, contacts scheduling).
For email client to see HTML content (available already) no server config is required.

Simply put BES (alone) will not be able to provide email.

you may very well be correct, however the software information we have lists the new BIS/BES as a pre-requisite. The reason why is immaterial, if that is how it is set up, thats how it is set up.

The RIM servers strip most of the html coding out of emails. Those servers will most definitely need to be reconfigured for true html emails to be viewed (BIS 2.5.) Since BES Admins likely don't want html going through without their control, there will definitely need to be some reconfiguring there as well (BES 4.1.5.)

I am not a BES Admin, nor do I have experience with Exchange (other than using it.) However, I do know that RIM's documentation (not yet released to everyone) states that BES 4.1.5 and/or BIS 2.5 along with OS 4.3.1/4.5 is required for html email.

You can argue your points all you want with lots of technical mumbo jumbo that I don't understand as well as many others here. However, I know what I've read about the enhancements that are coming.
