Default Trying to update BB 8800 to os 4.5 .... Not good

Please Login to Remove!

Hey this is Barron and I got my blackberry 8800 around Christmas time and been running 4.2.1 on it and after a couple of months i decided to update to 4.5. I tried updating it and it nuked my phone. I have been on technical support with AT&T, RIM, Blackberry, and warrenty. They have given me many diffrent ways to try to update my blackberry and i have tried them all but none of them have seemed to work at all, all it does when i finish updating my phone it starts loading and rebooting the only way i can get into the phone is when the at&t logo comes up on the screen and i hit a button. but it wont stay one for a long time at all, if the phone goes idle for a few minutes it will just reboot again and the proses gets repeated. Ive talked to warrenty and had them send me a new phone that was "going to have 4.5" on it already but they decided to go ahead and send it with 4.2.1. So i got the new phone today and tried to update it up to 4.5 one last time just to make sure it was the phone. It didnt work. Ive been trying to find a diffrent operating system than 4.5 (clearly doesnt work.) but one that is above 4.2.1 so im going to try 4.3 that i found for the 8330 and delete the vendor.xml file to do so. I dont know if it will work but im sure it's better than 4.2.1 I know this has happend to lots of blackberry users and IMO they should just take the software down i mean i have tried everything it just doesnt want to work. Any help or know a way to get other OS's for the 8800 besides 4.5 and 4.2? anyone been able to fix this. Please help, if you get it fixed i will upload windows7 desktop backgrounds :P

Wirelessly posted (Its All About the U!)

What Desktop Manager version are you using? 8830 OS won't work on 8800

Unhappy

Barron,

I'm having the exact same problem as you are. I have an 8800 on AT&T Wireless. OS 4.2 works fine, but an upgrade to >any< version of OS 4.5 causes the never-ending reboot cycle.

I can use the device same way as you--hit some keys as soon as the AT&T logo comes up, but it reboots a couple of minutes after I stop using it.

I grabbed a copy of the event log set to Debug, but there seems to be very little documentation about the "Severity" and "Event" codes. Here's the last chunk of the log before it reboots:

I don't know enough the BlackBerry's inner workings to use this information to my advantage, though.

Do you have a media card in your device?

Yes, and I think I know where you're going. After I made this post, I did some more searching and found that the media card was the culprit.

I removed it during the boot process and my BB came up cleanly without any reboots. I put the card back in, reformatted it, and everything's been working flawlessly since then.

I don't know if that's the same problem that Barron is running into, but I was surprised to see that the media card issue isn't better known/documented.

Thanks for your help!

You're welcome.

It's been posted around the forums for a little while now. Glad your device is back up and running.
