Re: BES 5 SP3 for Domino and Exchange Available
From the Release notes:
SQL2000 / MSDE not supported.
Does that mean that the for example the free edition of SQL2005 will not work ?

Re: BES 5 SP3 for Domino and Exchange Available
SQL 2005 express will work.
MSDE is based on SQL 2000

Re: BES 5 SP3 for Domino and Exchange Available
Thanks, i thought that too, but then sql 2005 is the same as MSDE but for 2005, and, before i start an installation which will possibly render a server inoperable, its better to ask.

Can I upgrade directly to this
I am currently at BES 5.0.1 (Bundle 70) running on Lotus Domino 8.5. If I do a tel Bes about from the console it says that I am on 5.0.1.32. Can I go directly to this SP3 or do I have to go to I guess it would be SP2 first?
Thanks in advance

Re: BES 5 SP3 for Domino and Exchange Available
MSDE and SQL 2005 express are 2 differnet things that do a similar task.
Almost all of 2000 products are no longer supported by microsoft, that is maybe why they dont reccomand it anymore.
SQL 2005 express upgrade to Full SQL 2005 is a easy task if you need to upgrade in the future.

Service Packs are cumulative.
You can go directly to 5.0.3.

I hate being on GroupWise, we always have to wait! LOL
So, from what I understand, in SP3, you have the option to only wipe desktop items when doing a security wipe, and leave personal data in tact.
Have you done any testing with this, or is a new version of the haldheld OS needed for this as well?

I tested it this afternoon. It works great.
The option in BAS is called 'Delete only the organization data and remove device'.
I don't see any requirements as far an OS version goes.
The lowest version we have active on BES is 4.5, and the option to delete BES data is available for that user.
There's also a new IT Policy group called 'Personal Devices' which allows segregation of Work and Personal data on the handheld.
Those Policy options require handheld OS 6.

Re: BES 5 SP3 for Domino and Exchange Available
Are there any requirements in terms of what exchange version we need to be patched up to in order to use BES 5 SP3? I'm currently running Exchange 2010 Sp1, and BES 5.0 sp2 mr1

Re: BES 5 SP3 for Domino and Exchange Available
What would be the expected time frame for 'Express' releases? About 1 month?

Re: BES 5 SP3 for Domino and Exchange Available
i am currently running bes 5.0.2 in HA (using 2 servers) and like to upgrade to sp3. i have read the upgrade guide and it is not clear to me at all how to go about this.
i read chapter 6 and especially the section about Upgrade the BlackBerry Enterprise Server instances that you configured for disaster recovery is not clear at all to me, they talk about bes server 4.0. I am on 5.02. I am usually all for reading the documentation but this does not seem to help me. or should i just replace the number 4.0 with 5.0.x and try and follow these steps?
if i understand correctly when installing SP you basically are going to encounter downtime unlike with MR where you can install the MR on the HA server first, do a manual failover and then upgrade the primary BES server and then failback once completed.
does anyone know the corect upgrade steps when installing a SP? I have a SQL server running locally on the BES server and have this mirrored to the SQL server on the bes HA server? do i break the SQL mirror? or can i leave this intact? should i upgrade the HA server first or the primary bes server first?
many thanks

Re: BES 5 SP3 for Domino and Exchange Available
I have a similar setup to you, and this is basically what I did (with no downtime at all):
1. Manual failover from Primary to Standby instance.
2. Install SP3 on primary BES. BAS is also updated.
3. Manual failover again, thus making the upgraded BES the primary again.
4. Install SP3 on standby BES. Done.

Re: BES 5 SP3 for Domino and Exchange Available
Chapter 6 is talking about an upgrade from BES 4 HA to BES 5 HA. BES 4 had the possibility of having a manual HA config with a script for the manual fail-over.
Going from 5.0.2 to 5.0.3 is described in this KB:
KB24541-Best practices for installing service packs for BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0

Older post I know, but I haven't been around here lately.
The option is there, but it won't work. I tried it on my Curve 2 running OS5, and it came back saying it wasn't supported. I figure this requires segregation.
I'll also note, when upgrading to SP3, make sure your MAPI/CDO is at least at 8165. I had 8153 and it caused 10,000 extra log files to be created each day. I didn't see any end user issues, but it's possible they would have cropped up.

Re: BES 5 SP3 for Domino and Exchange Available
I don't even see the "Personal Devices" policy group on my BES after upgrading to 5.0 SP3. Any reason why it wouldn't show up?
