Default 4.1 SP5 Monitoring

Please Login to Remove!

Just curious if anybody else has checked out the SP5 Monitoring from RIM. I installed and checked it out, but I am either missing something or it really doesn't monitor much. I don't see anywhere for monitoring hung threads which seems like it should be a default in a BES monitoring solution. The only critical items I see is that of monitoring the BES services and SRP connectivity.

After waiting so long for it, I get better monitoring using BES Alerts and the Message confirmation tool. If anything this is more Blackberry Reporting service as it makes nice reports.

For now I have the SRP and a couple other things setup but I'd be interested in some recommended thresholds to set.

Click on a server and then Manager Server Thresholds. Add this for Processed and click Update Thresholds.

This will send an alert if BES hasn't processed any mail for 20 minutes. In RIM's presentation on BMS they had it set to 60. I found that way too long.

Thank you for that, haven't noticed before.

For hung threads monitoring, what if you set the Number of Agents threshold to less than how many your BES has? Not sure if you get to the point that the Messaging Agent will not start because of worker thread issues, if this would pick it up or not.

Wink 4.1 SP5 Monitoring

Anyone try to run a report on individual user groups using the new monitoring tool? If so, how did you do it?

i really don't have a problem with it as it does everything i want atm. all i want is an sms when certain things are abnormal like the srp disconnected or 0 pending messages so i know sooner than later when someone calls the help desk and escalates.

i don't really need it tell me why something is broken and how to fix it as i generally know why already and how to fix it. if it's that baffling im on the phone with rim but for our environment those kind are far and few between.

I agree with RadHaz. Blackberry Monitor seems to do what it says EXCEPT...i don't see any guide to setting the thresholds. If Dookie hadn't mentioned about that you can actually set it to notify you if e-mails aren't being processed after a certain time period, i wouldn't have know. Help page...isn't any help.

Thanks for the info. Is there anyway to have it only send notifications for failures?

Is there a guide on how to use the monitoring tool? I'm not even sure where to start looking for it?

And now for my next dumb question, where do you download it? I can't find a download location? The PDF talks about installing it on a seperate PC and I can't find the install? Thanks!

[EDIT]: Found it. For anyone else looking, it's under the BES that you installed 4.1.5 on under Research in Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.1.5\BlackBerry Monitoring Service
