I've had this OS on my Bold for a few days now and 1 thing is very clear. The battery life is amazing!

I tested on EDGE and 3G.. Edge lasted 2.5 days before I had to charge (low to intermediate usage).

3G lasted me almost 1.5 days.

Usually, I would have to charge 3/4 of the day in (with same usage on 3G and 1-1 and 1/4 day in with EDGE).

I don't have any issues with speakerphone.

I have never wiped (which I take it is similar to reformatting a hard drive before installing a new operating system) my Bold 9000 prior to installing .509. In the last year and a half I have probably installed around 12 new OSs and I have not ever wiped before upgrading or reinstalling a new OS.
I havent noticed any voice-choppiness, but I use my bold mostly for data, (e-mail and internet).

major things i noticed were

pros

1. improved battery life
2. sms looks like bbm (threaded sms)
3. improved memory
4. different icons

cons

1. calls cut in and out sometimes
2. speakerphone works, at a very low volume (dont know how to change it)
3. music and videos play on only one volume, cant change it

Great! Tomorrow I'll go for the upgrade.

Can I just load the new 5.0 os on the actual 4.6 without any full wipe??

I would like to keep all my apps without the need to reinstall everything

some of your apps may not be 5.0 compliant.

Either or both. If you want to find out before you upgrade, contact the developer of each app.

From what I have heard, you cannot upgrade your device OS to v5 unless you have a real Blackberry Data plan on your account.

I just upgraded a 9000 that I bought from a friend to OS 5.0.0.509 from a 4.6 version. I made the upgrade without having a SIM in the device so it definitely did not have a data plan. Before installing the OS I did a wipe using BBSAK. Then used it to load the new OS. That might not have worked if I had tried to do the install using Desktop Manager.

I put my SIM in it to test and everything seemed to work well.
