Default wiping device via BES question

Please Login to Remove!

Howdy,
If a device gets reported as lost/stolen, and you send the "erase data and disable handheld" command via the BES, what all exactly gets wiped off hte device - everything, including notepad/memos, photos etc..., or just email & calendar items?

Thanks!

All user data gets wiped. Messages, calendar, contacts, tasks, memos, third-party app data, etc.

Depending on the IT Policy, version of OS on the device, and the version of BES... you can also reset the device back to factory settings.
With BES 5 and OS 5, you can even wipe the Media card.

Please note. The signal from the BES must reach the device to cause the wipe to happen. Do not get a false sence of security just because you can send the command. If the device is taken to an area where there is no signal and the radio is turned off the wipe signal will not get through and all the data is still on the phone. Just so you know.

Thanks much for both of your replies.

Eramer - I was aware of the info you relayed, but one follow up question. If we send the "erase & disable" command but the device is off - so it doesn't implement, and then we disable redirection, if the device should be powered on after that, which takes precedent? Do the queued emails (including the erase & disable command) hit the device and then there is no further redirection, or will the disable redirection setting take precedent so that no further emails hit the device, but what's already there remains?

Thanks again!

When you send the erase & disable command it goes to the RIM network. As soon as the device is turned on (within 7 days) it will get wiped even if redirection is disabled.
