Wirelessly posted (8120 4.5.037)
Ok I just noticed under my email settings that an option now exists to auto download images. This was not there the day BIS 2.5 came online. Was this a recent push of a new service book? I am running 4.5.0.52 on my 8120.
I like the new feature. I am trying to figure out if it was a 4.5 add on or a change on BIS.

It's been there since BIS 2.5 but for me it doesn't work. I still have to download manually.

For me, BB 4.5 HTML browser is still much worse than Empower. The layouts of email msgs is just very difficult to read on the screen with just about any HTML msg.

I love the new format as well. The automatic download does not work for either my BIS or BES emails. I am running 4.5.0.52 on a 8320

It would be wonderful if, like Empower, the images could be saved to your SD card. Anyone know if it's possible or on the plans to do so?

The auto download feature automatically downloads any embedded HTML images. However, if the HTML images use external links for the graphic images, RIM has decided for security reasons to require the user to manually download these images. Since most HTML messages link to external images, this is why it appears that the automatic download feature does not work.

Agree 100% - I found this to be the case too.
Once, you state it is ok to "Get Images" from an external link - do you find all subsequent mails from that sender will auto display these external images?
Edit : e.g. company logo

In my experience, if you re-open an email that has already had the images downloaded (either automatically or manually), all the images will be there without the need to reload. Also, I believe (from my experience), in subsequent emails that use the identical link as a previous e-mail, that image will automatically appear. For example, in a Target e-mail, the menu bar in subsequent e-mails automatically appear even though I had to manually load it the first time I received an email from Target. However, I have not paid much attention to this, so I could be wrong about this. Also, I am on a BES, so my experience might be different then those on BIS.

The autodownload works after the first time you accept Images from a particular email address.

How does it know what email address you have downloaded images from? Is this info stored in the address book?

Same experience. Once "Get Images" is selected on an e-mail, all subsequent e-mails with the same image address will be auto downloaded. So some e-mails will come through with half the images loaded (as stated above, usually the company logo/banner), and half need to be loaded via "Get Images."
I think the layout is excellent. Everyone I show this to who has a BB and not running Beta OS is very excited. And rightfully so.

Images Not Loading
I am also having trouble with images not loading.
It seems to only work sometimes.
I select Get Images and nothing happens.
Any ideas, folks?
Thanks,
Jay

Ok Im on .81 at the moment (getting ready to go to .93), using AT&T and I dont see any options for getting images period. Im on a Curve 8310.
Checked all the options under the email app, checked around in the main options, nada..
I know somewhere before I did in fact see this option when I first upgraded to 4.5 months ago but now its gone..
Wiscaudi's got me all giddy cause hes on AT&T and said he can get em..
Where the heck is this option at to even enable html email???

While in the Messages folder, hit "Menu", then "Options." Select "Email Settings." At the top of that screen should be the name of the account you're currently changing. Also on that screen is "Enable HTML Email." If you do not see that, then you need to logon to AT&T's Blackberry BIS site and resend your service books.
Once service books are resent, and you're able to enable HTML e-mail for each of your e-mail accounts, you should be able to hit the menu button while viewing an e-mail and select "Get Images."

Thanks man! Yeah actually I think I did have to go back to the BIS site and update it.
I forgot to pay my webhosts bill on time and it got shut off for an hour or so on the 1st and of course killed my BB connection to it..
I just remembered this morning to go reactivate it and did it via my BB itself.
Started getting email again but no option for HTML..
Went to the website to see if I had to do something there and the website acted as if I had never been to it before when I logged in and I had to re-enter my PIN and IMEI#. I had forgotten my password and when I entered the PIN it told me I didnt exist??
So once I figured it out the password, logged in entered PIN and IMEI, all my account info was in fact still there. A second later my BB just started freaking out and updating like every email Ive gotten since the 1st of October thats still in my IMAP box, and now like 15 minutes after I posted the question, the HTML option shows back up and I just saw images from a musiciansfriend.com newsletter!!
Wow finally! I never thought this would happen! Now if only AT&T would actually release a final 4.5 firmware haha!
