Default Help with Events 4.0 BES

Please Login to Remove!

Anyone other than me noticed the huge amount of warnings they are throwing into the event viewer. I'm sure I'm not the only one that works to keep their event viewer clear as well as can be expected. Well alot of the things they throw in there I can find no explanation for, literally. I have no idea what they are trying to say.

If any of you know of a document or resource for event ids related to v4 that would be great.

I know they aren't super important but they make the server "seem" like it has issues and some of them do concern me.

This one inparticular if any of you have researched it. Hell if I just knew what it meant I'd feel a little better

I get similar for groupwise BES as well. hundreds a day usually, but they've never really posed a problem.

I think some of the logs need reclassified. I get one warning from the Policy Service that a key regeneration request was sent to the device. This sounds like something that should be informational, but is classified as a Warning.

I'm currently asking RIM about some of these, here are the first thoughts which may or may not help. First, make sure that MDAC 2.8 is installed on the BES server and the database server if it's a remote database. Also, they suggest enabling network protocols of "Named Pipes" and "TCP/IP " in SQL server network utility on the computer hosting the BlackBerry server configuration database. To open SQL server network utility, type "svrnetcn" from the run menu.

If a device is not on 4.0, it will create more errors in the log.

Some of this is already in the 4.0 installation documentation, but there may be something that helps get rid of an error or two.

I would be very interested in anyone's research on this topic. As I am also seeing this error. Again I can not find any information on this.

i only get these from users who haven't upgraded to OS 4.0 (one user on the 4.0 server).

I decided to see if I could get at least some errors to go away, so I started a ticket with RIM to get rid of a GME Compression error I get every time I start my MDS service. After several suggestions from RIM (updating Java), having me check various settings on the SQL server, they found that this refers to a feature not yet implemented. Why they didn't know this to begin with I don't know. It definately makes it hard to know what really is a warning or not.

Agree with Jibi, i beleive this only occurs with handhelds not on 4.0 - once they are on 4.0 they will apply the policy and the messages should cease.

I have had the same warnings (ID 2000). Our provider O2 have offerd support, but as yet have not been very helpfull, All our devices are using version 4.0.0.188. I have however noticed that only 3 of the 5 divices we have (we are in a trial period) are reporting the warnings.

The BES server (exchange) has all the latest security updates and patches etc and is not running any other services. I have also aplied hot fix one and two for BES.

I would like to be able to say for sure what is causing this problem, just so I know whether I should be worried about this or not. Our trial ends next week and my managers and directors will want asurance that this is not an issue.

I have just worked it out.

In my case the errors where only comeing up for a few users, I have now found out that these users only switch on the device when they want to check or send mail. (pointless haveing a bb then) hence the reason the policy is failing is because the device is switched off.

I kept getting an event message that was driving me nuts...

"The description for Event ID ( 20000 ) in Source ( BlackBerry Router ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the event: [DEVICE_SESSION:201B9218:01195400]
Timer Event. Exceeded service authentication timeout. No authenticated services. Releasing session.."

Here is RIM's reponse...

This error means for the BlackBerry Router could not authenticate your SRP identifier and authentication key for some reason, therefore the session timed out. There is no cause for a concern because the BlackBerry Router would automatically re-establish the SRP connection. Is the status of your BlackBerry Enterprise Server "Running"?

My response....Yes, Running...green status

Final response from RIM...

If the BlackBerry Enterprise Server is running, the error messages may be indicative of a temporary network problem which interfered with the connection to the SRP Host. If the issue persists, I would suggest setting up network monitoring to monitor the traffic to srp.na.blackberry.net.

Default Blackberry Router Exceeded service authentication timeout

I am having a problem in our production environment with the Router. This is the situation. When I connect the device to the desktop or BB server it is detected through Blackberry handheld manager. A connection is established through the router. The server is supposed to route messages or perform a enterprise activation if wireless is turned off. I consistently get this warning in the app log at after ten minutes of connection.

The description for Event ID ( 20000 ) in Source ( BlackBerry Router ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: [DEVICE_SESSION:201FD1E7:01253060] Timer Event. Exceeded service authentication timeout. No authenticated services. Releasing session..

I have performed the following: Configured different router port on server, repaired Enterprise server, uninstalled and installed BB server, hotfix 2, new SQL database. I do not have this problem in our labs. RIM has no idea what the problems is. Every other Server/Handheld function works correctly. I hope you are having better luck.

My guess is newbie is having the same problem. If you only use wireless activations and/or do not want to route through the wire you would never look for this situation.

They actually label those as Service Packs? I'm now curious as to which version is considered SP1 for the handheld code.

Default BES 4.0 vs. Symantec Corporate

We are on BES 4.0 with 7250 handhelds. Symantec corporate runs against the server daily. After a reboot of the server, the Blackberry Policy Service 20000 events go away until Symantec scans files again. The event description includes: "RequestHandler::DoITPolicyDeviceSentProcessin g - Unable to find matching entry id for SRPTag=2934 and GMEId=0".

This does not appear to interfere with email messaging. The SQL DB is remote.

Are there files that should be excluded from scanning? This is a dedicated BES server.

Is this an Exchange or Domino or Groupwise BES?

Does RIM post a list for files/folders to exclude from Symantec Scans?
