Desktop Manager Greyed Out when device connected
Please Login to Remove!
Running Desktop Manager on Windows 7. When I initially open Desktop Mgr icons are visible. When I connect my Curve 8310, the device is recognized but they Desktop Manager icons grey out and nothing happens--no synch, no ability to backup or download software? Any suggestions?

Do you have a password enabled on the blackberry and is it locked?

No error messages, nothing, it will just stay like that if you leave it?
I see from your other thread that you say you reinstalled the OS. Were you able to connect the first time and do a restore? What did you do?

Have not been able to do a restore since installing new OS. But, I installed the new OS because I was having the problem earlier. I have been able to synch with the old OS after installing Windows 7, so I don't think it is a W7 problem.

You seem to be adding information as we go along.
You are saying you were able to sync before, then you reinstalled the OS because of a problem, and now you have this problem with desktop manager? Is that the situation?
Also, in your other thread you talk about the calendar app hanging up. Was that before you installed the OS, or is that now?

Calendar problem was the original reason for installing new OS--could not get past the "Organizing Calendar" stall. Calendar problem still exists, as does the inability to synch, after reinstalling new OS several times.

So, when you reinstalled the OS, what did you do/how did you go about it? It sounds like the device was backed up before the reinstall, and then restored afterward.

Where I'm going is I'm wondering if a corrupt calendar database, and maybe other corrupt databases, too, are causing desktop manager to hang up. But that shouldn't be the case if you wiped the device and didn't restore the old databases after the OS reinstall.

I used Windows uninstall from Control Panel to remove the old OS, then installed the new OS after downloading.
I have seen no evidence that there has been any backup or synch performed since installing the new OS. In process of trying to resolve this issue, I have also uninstalled Desktop Manager and then reinstalled v 5.01.37 of Desktop Manager. Desktop Manager opens fine and all icons are active until I connect my 8310, at which point the icons grey out and I can't do anything within Desktop Manager until I disconnect my BB.

So you didn't actually reinstall the OS on the device, or upgrade the OS on the device?
Do you have a recent backup file at all?

Duh--you are correct. I see that the OS on my BB is still 4.5.0.110 while the version I downloaded was 4.5.0.182. So, I have not updated the OS on my BB, nor do I know how to do that because of the problem with Desktop Manager.

Close desktop manager. Find loader.exe and use that instead. If you can't locate it, search, or search the forum and you'll find a post that mention's the folder it is located.

Desktop Manager and Calendar Issue Resolved
Ira - Thanks so much for your help. Was able to successfully install new OS using Loader.exe. This has resolved issue with Calendar and Desktop Manager, both of which now seem to be working again.
