Default How does the charging pod work

Please Login to Remove!

How does the charging pod charge your phone or transfer USB files if you choose to mount it while connected to the computer. It doesn't look like the pod plugs into your device, it just sits in it, you plug you cable in the back of the pod.

It's power only. There's no USB connectivity for transferring data of any kind.

It is ONLY a charging pod, it does not connect to a PC.
The pod has little prongs, these connect with little pads on the side of your device.
It conducts electricity and charges your device.

The point of the charging pod is to save the abuse to the USB port and is a MUST have accessory. It is too bad that there is not one that does both but if you look at the 9700, the contact points would be used to charge and USB cable would have to be used to synch the berry.

I have the charging pod and I agree with you that it is a MUST have accessory (especially at the price that I got it for) and saves on wear/tear with the USB port being used to charge the device.

That charge pod definitely does require the USB connection at the phone to sync - as do the others. I can't tell from the pix if it charges through the contacts or the USB port.

This is the one I have... it doesn't sync (none do, that I know of)... but does charge via the contacts... at about 1/3 of the price... and it is RIM OEM:

Only the Storm 1 does, as its advertised by RIM as a Sync pod, and uses it on the side, with the USB port.
It doesn't have contacts on the side, ya see.

Bluetooth syncing while in the craddle is a good option. You still need to cable for things like app installs and media, but for routine backups you can just leave it in the pod and sync.
