Question BEM vs Small Business Edition

Please Login to Remove!

I apologize in advance if this is the wrong place for this question. That said, I'd like to know what material difference there is between BES Enterprise and Small Business versions -- apart from license fees that is.

I have a client with SBS 2003 and about 20 employees who's looking closely at Blackberry but only if it gives him the kind of email ability he sees some of his colleagues enjoying -- i.e., being hounded by email everywhere they go.

I'd appreciate any learned input on this plus what add-ons would be recommended in this context. I.E., will NTBACKUP deal successfully with such an installation? etc, etc.

The RIM web-site is full of marketing slime but very little useful information for someone who may be asked to implement such a scheme.

Thanks in advance,
Wye

The Smal Business Edition is limited to 20 CAL's.

Considering most carrier's are giving Enterprise Edition servers away for free with 10+ units I recommend getting the full blown server and never worry about it.

The licensing (including the max users) is the only difference between the two. Architechturally there are identical.

All DR strategies and resouces are included with the BES.
Some other strategies may work more effificiently (i.e. NTBACKUP)

The Small Business Edition is actually limited to 15 users.

You cannot get the Enterprise until you have at least 15 users.

We have the Small Business and cannot get the Enterprise until we get to 15 users.

The only difference that I know of, is client licenses are $250 for Small Business and more like $80 for Enterprise.

There is nothing really to decide if you are <15 users you can only get the Small Business.

If you are >15 then you can only get the Enterprise.

You can buy BES (Enterprise) with just 1 initial user, there is not a requirement to start with 15 users. If the site is going to grow over 15 at some point, then you should start with Enterprise since the Small Business version can't be expanded beyond 15 users.
