Default switching from 8700c to 7130c issues

Please Login to Remove!

I have a question for the experts- I am thinking of purchasing a 7130c. I am currently using an 8700c and wanted to know if I could just swap SIM cards or was it more involved to switch between BB's.

Basically-I want to try the phone form factor of the 7130c but I know I am going to hate missing the shortcuts and the smaller screen. For me the only way to fully test is for a couple of weeks of actual useage. Just standing in the store and playing with it is not long enough to form a reasonable opinion.

Thanks

Yes you can swap your SIM card between the two.

You'll need to go to your carrier's web client and change the PIN registered as your active device for BIS and do a new Enterprise Activation if you're on BES.

I picked up a 7130c the day it was released, used it for a day and then went back to me 8700c. Yesterday I picked the 7130c up again and switched back to it so I can give it a proper testing.

You're right, the lack of shortcuts is a lot to live without.

I tried using it last night after using the 8700 for 2 weeks, after using the 7130 for a week and a half, and yes.... I'm still using the 8700....

Here here!

By far and away the worst thing about the 7130c. And i thought it would be the SureType. It actually works awesome!

In my experience i had problems using the 7130c mostly because of muscle memory. My fingers are so used to my 8700c i realised i can actually type while looking at the screen for the most part, i dont have to look at the keyboard anymore! Using the 7130c made me slow, and sloppy on the keyboard, too used to the full qwerty spread.

Just curious, is there any improvement in voice quality with the 7130c over the 8700?

Good question Sufan-I would like to know this as well-Is the voice quality better? Personally, I do not have much to complain about on the 8700c but always looking for better.

the 7130 is an excellent phone IMO... but the breaker was the shortcuts. The 8700 is too efficient for me, so i went back to it after a few weeks! I found the 7130 lagged quite a bit as well doing multiple things that the 8700 can do easily.

My feelings exactly for suretype. It's the mind that slows you down, not the system. AND no shortcuts makes my skin turn a pinkish and that won't due.

Unhappy The clincher for me was something completely different...

Like LGreenberg, I, too, jumped at the chance to have all of the blackberry goodness in a form factor that made perfect sense. I was willing to give up some screen real-estate and some typing comfort for a BB that didn't abuse me in terms of size and weight. When I first got the 7130c, I was thrilled and ready to return my 8700c, but thought - wait for the full 30 days to make certain I'd made the right choice.

In that 30 days, I found that SureType worked better than I had expected by a long shot - it indexed and populated the custom typing dictionary with words from my emails and address book so that proper nouns and such just typed flawlessly 98% of the time. Even website URLs seemed to type easily. The screen was fine - yes, I had to scroll more to find the info I wanted on webpages and such, but it was fine since I could easily wear the phone in my pocket - a tradeoff I was very willing to make.

Then, the clincher... In the process of setting up my 7130c, I was adding some of my favorite programs. I began to experience the same problem LGreenberg reported with his - seemed that when adding more than 5 or 6 programs to the 7130c, programs would no longer load properly - spouting errors when I tried OTA and BBDM installs of programs. I'm sure I chose the proper versions for the 7xxx series BBs - but still no dice. I double checked the memory specs on both the 8700 and 7130 and both had the same RAM/Storage specs... there was plenty of free memory on the 7130 to accept the new applications. They just wouldn't install properly. This raised a number of red flags in my head about the reliability of the new 7130c handset and I decided it best to go back to the 8700c and return the 7130.

Done deal? Being on the bleeding edge of new tech is one of the games I play with myself. I love the newest and greatest - but in this case, I thought that erring on the side of reliability would be my best bet...

All that said, if anyone knows why it is the case that these errors were popping up and know how to fix it, I'd be more than willing to try again...

I posted the fix to the "too many apps on device" error in my thread on the issue.

The problem is that the Blackberry can only hold 250 .cod files. For some reason the 7130c comes with support for every single language preinstalled. Each language contains multiple .cod files. With all of these languages installed you quickly go over the .250 limit when you start adding extra apps.

Once you remove all the extra languages your device works fine.

I've had zero issues loading third party applications ( knock on wood ) since I removed everything but support for USA English.

So, the question is LG, have you abandoned your 8700c now for the 7130c?
