Default Messaging clients that do not use up text messages

Please Login to Remove!

Do AIM and Gmail talk use up SMS messages?
And if so, what are some other ways of 'chatting' that do not quickly deplete your text messages.
If there is another topic similar, sorry; I couldn't find a 'search' feature, probably b/c I am a newb. ^_^

*edit: I found the search :]

But I still did not find an answer. Also, where can I install a free version AIM to my Blackberry? Preferably something that does NOT use up SMS.

mishy, look at the real obvious Sticky Notes at the tops of several of these forums for LOTS of info on IM apps, etc., and in the Aftermarket Software Forum. Loads of threads on just your question. You need an IM app that uses data, not SMS, try JiveTalk when it is available, I believe Verichat also uses data.

Verichat has been dead for months and months and months.

Free clients are:

AIM - Ramble

Google Talk - Google Talk - Downloadable from Google

Yahoo IM - Yahoo IM - Downloadable from RIM.

Links can be found for these in the Aftermarket Software.

I think it depends on the carrier as well as the application. So I would also check with whomever you use for service.
