I have two mailboxes defined on my E61 - my corporate (BES) Blackberry account and a free GMail. Blackberry e-mail works fine.

Blackberry connect limitations:
1. Inability to save and attach attachments (no such issues with GMail account). But that was on the BB7290 also, I suspect thats just how BES works.
2. Inability to surf internet unless on WiFi. Blackberry2 connection is always active, but it is not defined as an access point and the browser does not use it by default. This is most likely a fault of the BBC soft.
3. Wireless sync is only for e-mail and calendar. Contacts do not sync in this version of BBC (6.28.1).

Overall I am very glad I've switched to Nokia unit.

I am on Cingular network.

When you surf the net you should have a list of connection options pop up when you go to your first address, this will be the connection used for the duration of your connection unless you change it.

It is known that many Cingular users cannot surf the web and have a connection to their BB service at the same time, but I belive there was a fix for that. (Im on Tmobile so I am not sure)

Verify which connection you are using. Go to menu-tools-settings-connection-access points and see what connection types you have set up. You can also add/store wlan networks and wep keys so you are not repeating the process over and over. You might just need to add a connection with Cingulars wap settings to get you through.

You can also order Cingulars settings via pc suite as well (I have not tried it though)

I have all the Cingular access points defined. Unfortunately none of them work. I suspect that this is just a corporate data plan limitation I am using. The main problem as I see it is that BB7290 unit was able to use the same blackberry connection to surf the net and Nokia E61 can't. When I check active connections in E61 BlackBerry2 is listed, but it is not in the list of access points and not in the list when the browser comes up.

Like I said the E61 can surf and receive bb data since I am doing it on Tmobile, I believe it has something to do with Cingulars set up unfortunately. Search around a bit, maybe try howardforums.com in the s60 section since I know there are a few users that do have it working on Cingular.

one thing that I like about symbian phones is that their menu can be accessed by items numbe. i.e: to go to missed calls I could press Menu, 3 ,1,1 .
is this feature is still available in E61 or it missing. without this, navigating could be really slow.

I ditched the E61 after about a week and went back to the BB. The Nokia is too slow, takes too many steps to do stuff. I want a communication device that works, not the "Executive Toy de Jour" to impress people with. It's got all kinds of features, bell and whistles; but it's not intuitive, not ergonomic, and it's complicated.

I have a desk drawer full of Palms, Pocket PC's, Clie's; even a Flybook and a Toshiba Libretto etc. that were all technological wonders - they just didn't work very effectively. A Filofax and cell phone blows this crap out of the water.

The only other device that I have owned, that worked - and I mean really "worked" - was the Apple Newton. I still have a couple of the gems around today and they still "work"

So there! That's my rant for the day!

Actually, the E61 has lasted a lot longer on my desk (instead of the boxes UNDER my desk). I kind of like it. Not sure why. It is slow and does take too many steps. But the screen is great, and we WERE able to get Mail for Exchange to work so we can test it alongside the WM5 devices. It hasn't come close to replacing the BlackBerry, and it is way to difficult and pesky to set up to give to any executive customers. But I am still using it....

I used mine for about one week, then it sat on my desk for another month or two, sold it a few weeks ago. I agree with everything in your post. The OS was just not efficient enough. Took too long to open and reply to emails, WAY slower than my 8700. I miss the web browser, WiFi, and the build quality.....not much else. I think the 8100 will be my next phone, should displace my 8700 quite easily....somehting the E61 did not even come close to doing.

I love this device. The things I DO NOT LIKE are related to BB connect software and not the device. The fact you cant add an attachment is a real annoyance, not being able to save an attachment from email is also annoying, and last but not least not being able to open .jpg files is VERY VERY annoying. Hopefully they will fix these issues later on. It just sucks because all of these things are not an issue with the built in email app, it is just not as fast as the BB connect, as it will only interval every 30 min :(

But you have the patience of a saint . . . . especially when someone forgets to use the search tool!

I borrowed a Nokia E61 for a while and will happily give it back. I liked the weight of the device, and the screen is excellent, but BlackBerry functionality hasn't progressed beyond BlackBerry version 3.6
It synchronises email and calendar data with my BES, but contacts (critically), to-do list and notes need me to synchronise with my PC via USB cable or Infrared connection (apparently Bluetooth is also an option).
I really liked the wireless LAN feature, and the browsing experience is good too (3G browsing is a must-have).
I didn't like the joystick - my thumb is blistered and I suspect it will break too soon - and the handset design is a little too 'square'.
I'll take my 8707v with full BlackBerry functionality and 3G capability any day.

A little over two hours into it, either I'm n something wrong or the E61 speed is being oversold. Significantly quicker getting onto iinternet with BlackBerry 8700 than E61. I've got the BlackBerry 8700c.

All reviews of the E61, including mine have repeatedly commented on the SLOW performance of the E61. You are not doing anything wrong, the E61 is just VERY slow, the hardware/os combo runs MUCH slower than the 8700.

Default lets be honest

as happey blackberry user i have to say i am really suprised to see so many people trashing so many phones, yes i undertsand that the phone does not meet the same performance as a blackberry but i think people need to look at the bigger picture. for example blackberry started out as a business tool and was made for business users and thats all they know. also as an owner of a E61 i have to say nokie did a good job of trying to play with blackberry the hardware is awsome if anything the main issue is that of software issue's and yes the exel does not work perfect yes cant view some pics but lets be honest as a hardcore user i am not sitting here edditing 5 page document on my blackberry i do get those files to view overlook and send back some comments and excel same thing look at the numbers and comment and send back. i feel that these days people who have these phones expect to much out of them then they start to ***** about battery performance. on a scale 1-10 the nokia got an 8 because hard ware was great software was slugish but it did do its job not as fast as a 8700c but i did not lose hours or mins more like a few secs here and there. you want a laptop in the plam of your hand buy the new UX90 for 2k and call it a day. there will be nothing out there that will keep up with the blackberry just because it was made from the start as a business tool and as long as they keep that image and that thought process they will always be on top
