Default Another BES Server for DMZ testing on same Lan

Please Login to Remove!

Hi

Info:
1x Bes Server 4.1.4
25 exchange servers connected to it.

We are currently in the process of installing a DMZ into our enviroment. Before we move the router from our current bes server to the dmz, we have to test it.

Now my question

Do minimize user impact during testing, management want to install another bes server exactly like the first one, with a differnt name (ofcourse) and add a test user to it and get it working. Then move that router to dmz and test it all on the same network (not a seperate test network). Is it possible to load another besserver (besserver2) connect to an exchange, add that test user and then get it working??? Without any downtime on the first besserver and for the users.

if not? what would you suggest we do to test the dmz without affecting our users.

Mine was to move the router to the dmz on a Saturday and if that doesnt work we move it back to the server.

Thanks,

It is possible to do what you wrote (as long as you use different srp). But installing router in DMZ should be good enough.

So I cant have the following???

BesServer1
srp.za.blackberry.net(Router on server)
about 80 users

BesServer2
srp.za.blackberry.net(Router on Server)
only 1 test user.
sql database on Server ( I assume i will need a seperate SQL Database)

Get BesServer2 to work first, then move the router off that server to a pc in the dmz, test again. if all works, we will trash the 2nd besserver and move the router off the first and point it to the router in the DMZ.

so basically we want to duplicate our blackberry setup we have at the moment. but on the same lan (live enviroment).

im just sared we install a second server and the first one stops working.

thanks,

You can't avoid downtime if you use the same SRP. You'll need a 2nd SRP if you want 2 BES up at the same time.

And by SRP, we mean the key - not the server that the BES connects to. Two identical SRP keys talking to RIM at the same time is a really fast way to incur downtime.

okay 1 more question!

I was not involved when the blackberry was installed and i havent installed a blackberry server myself (Yet ).

so just explain the srp key, is that a like a cdkey when the server is installed or is that the srp.za....... if it is the srp.za.... cant i just for the second server use another country's srp??? :P

is it possible to get another srp key??? does it cost anything to get a srp key

im still learning the background of the BES!!!!!!!

Thanks

Did you read install guide or admin guide at least to get yourself familiar with terms?

Yeah, hands off the BES until you've done some reading from RIM - their documentation is very good (god awful boring, but good).

SRP Key is like a CD key, CAL keys are license keys (one for every Berry). All which cost money.
